So I assumed Santa started a music battle/contest with this song, with a good start. So much so that his “enemies” (even if Krampus is more of an assistant of Santa in the folklore) are afraid to retaliate

The Manheim Steamroller version of this song has a sample at around 2:10 that would be a great opportunity for tou to add to your cover of this song. It's basically a sample that says "These silver bells" then its pitch shifted and modulated. I think you could do alot with that if you're still working on song. Even without that, your cover is the best version of this song yet!
