Hopefully they start doing the same thing under the new law for substantial drug abuse/addiction, related to mental health. I know there’s a funding issue which may be solved with the upcoming ballot initiative. Get these people clean and treated, and if it’s strictly mental health, get them treated, and housed in on a long-term basis in a mental health facility. Anything else is not only inhumane to them, but a negative impact on the environment, commerce and public safety.

The vehicle says homeless liaison program. Maybe he is not being arrested but a certain homeless program. He is dragging his feet in his packing if they won’t let him take all his treasures it could be the reason for the stall. This is mental illness and it’s a shame California didn’t keep their state hospitals and grounds. They could sure use them now.

Here's what I see. The officers are concerned for his mental health!!!! Officers put him in cuffs, then take off the cuffs so he can use a restroom unaccompanied by an officer!!! They didn't search him!!! He could have had a weapon/knife and harmed himself, or a pocket full of drugs and OD'ed. Either could have taken place while he was in the custody of the officers. Officers have a responsibility to protect an arrestee, who could have suicidal thoughts/inclinations, from himself, not just pat him down and put him the back seat. A pocket full of drugs, three hours later, he OD's and dies. Everyone standing around saying he didn't have any drugs....

Can we stop calling drug/alcohol addiction a mental health issue. These people have drug addictions which weigh heavily on their mental health. It isn't that these people have mental health issues which makes them resort to drugs. The problem isn't mental health issues, its CA that made all the felony drug charges misdemeanors, and now its societys problem. It's the exact same thing with all the theft, the crimes got turned into misdemeanors and now its society's problem as well. Tired of everyone bullshitting and beating around the bush and not taking responsibility. This is what happens When you give everybody a scapegoat Instead of making them face consequences for their actions. When I was growing up. The sad thing is that the city of Los Angeles offers no mental health services or help with addiction. LA county offers few. Most mental health facilities and addiction centers are privately run and require insurance or be wealthy. This guy will likely be held in a jail cell for 72hrs. and just kicked loose back on the street.

Arresting a homeless man? Why? Then what? They have to treat his illnesses and clothe and feed him and if he's an addict or alcoholic they have to get him in to rehab then house him and provide for his needs forever. Escort him off the property then drive away. It's cheaper and makes better sense.
