Why can't we say that yes Santana was wrong in threatening and yes Finn was definitely wrong in actually doing it. They were both wrong because it's wrong to out someone. I think it sucks that the only thing that happened to Finn was that he was slapped, like Santana never held a grudge after she just automatically forgave him? I feel like ultimately it was THE SHOW'S responsibility to make the audience realize how unacceptable it is to out someone. The audience feels Santana's initial horror but after the slap (which they make seem like a huuuge deal) was punishment enough for being outed. Also the fact that Santana threatened to out someone was also taken lightly to an extent. So I feel that it's safe to say that the writing fell short on tackling how imperative it is to NOT out someone
@ringosmalewife62754 жыл бұрын
yeah santana teased finn for being "fat" but that was no reason for him to out her. he could have easily came back at her with a silly jab but he had completely malicious intent and knew the weight of what he was saying. santana's mean one-liners were for her to deflect her feelings and maintain her bitchy cheerleader persona and also to make people laugh & like her. plus the idea of finn, a thin and conventionally attractive dude, being fat is ridiculous! while not MALICIOUS to finn intentionally, santana was not perfect. once she realized that her humor was actually hurting her friend's feeligs she should have pulled back. HOWEVER calling finn fat did not have the potential to ruin his life. the fact that her outed her in a hallway at a school where gay students get verbally and physically assaulted is inexcusable. so many people lose their family, friends, livelihood and safety when they are outed at times when they are not ready to do so! santana is not a saint but regardless of what anybody does, NOBODY deserves to be outed. some straight fans love to defend finn in that episode but they simply do not understand what being outed feels like and how it violates lgbt+ people's dignity. EDIT: yall- i'm not excusing or defenfing santana for threatening to out karofsky. that was messed up and she is totally a bully! this comment is not saying shes an amazing sweet person. i'm just stating the fact that OUTING SOMEONE IS NEVER OKAY, no matter who they are. even if theyre a bully. finn had no right to out her bc no one ever has the right to out anybody.

So yeah Finn blew up because he felt like his mother was replacing his dad, and Kurt was being super creepy and aggressive towards him. He felt trapped and lashed out, and while I do not use the word he used, even in his lashing out he did not call Kurt that word just a blanket. @@dramamole i totally get finn lashing out because kurt was being creepy and making him uncomfortable. i would've totally been by his side if he didn't use a slur TWICE. there's never an excuse to use a slur, and trust me he was not calling that blanket the slur, because if that blanket hadn't belonged to a gay man he would've never used that slur. he didn't have the same reaction with rachel in the second season, when she was constantly trying to get with him when he had made it clear that he didn't want to be with her, even though she was being even more insistent of kurt, kissing him without his consent twice. i get him lashing out at kurt, but the use of slurs, watching as kurt got bullied without doing anything and outing santana is more than enough proof of his internalized homophobia.

i kind of agree however brittany lead her on. brittany said that santana should talk about her feelings because "with feelings its better," implying that she wanted a relationship with santana like she was having with artie. and then when santana poured her heart out to her, brittany blew her off (even though it was for the right reasons) and acted surprised when santana was mad. they both acted a bit shitty at that time. but they definitely loved each other. it was nice to see their relationship go from unhealthy to pure and healthy. brittana are some of the best wlws out there!

You can kind of understand Santana’s frustrations. That was an incredibly difficult thing to do and she made herself vulnerable for the first time in her life and she didn’t get what she wanted. She felt as if she put herself through that for nothing.

Chase Nerbonne And Dave was a bully who violently assaulted & harassed Kurt every single day for being gay & then forcefully kissed him w/o his consent. Threatening to out someone is disgusting & never okay, but she didn’t actually out him. A football player did (that guy is a disgusting piece of sh!t as well). Finn publicly outed Santana in the hallway. You could go in circles trying to deflect the blame onto other people Bc they all did horrible, inexcusable, & unforgivable things. The SOLE point is- outing (or threatening to out) someone w/o their consent is never okay. EVER. It can literally risk someone’s life.

Okay, my problem is that people don't understand Santana's role as a character vs. Finn's role as a character. I came up with this ideal when I saw a poster for Glee, characters like Finn, Rachel, and other Glee club members have the slushie thrown on them. While, I'm trying my best to remember what it looked like, but, Santana was one of the people with a picture throwing a slushie. Santana's not supposed to be a good character, as in on the good side. Finn is. So, that's the problem. It's in her character to be mean and rude, and with the Glee's writers bad understanding of the life of actual minorities there comes to some questions about the Karofsky situation. So, treat this as it's own problem. Just because the writer's painted Finn to be on the good side and wrote the situation so everybody agreed, was a extreme disregard for LGBTQ+ youth and Santana. If Finn actually cared about gay people he would have never thought about using their sexuality against them in any situation; he would have thought about the effects of outing a person of color. He stated that he cared about her, and didn't wait her to harm herself. But, yet, he did the one thing that could have pushed her over the edge. Adding one more song to the list that makes you cry. Santana's supposed to be a bad person, and she is. But, stop looking at Finn as good when he does and says stuff that you know is wrong.
@VipanBavoria4 жыл бұрын
I dont think they intended anyone to be completely pure angel. They showed humanity in the supposedly bad persons like Sue and they also showed how people like Rachel, Finn, Artie, etc. could be so terribly mean/wrong. It's about growing from the mistakes which, in my opinion, Finn came through more than any other characters right from the start.
@theworstapollo57194 жыл бұрын
@@VipanBavoria And I understand that, but- the writing sucks. And when the writing sucks like it does not and almost every other time, you can't really blame the characters. It's the writer's fault. I felt that was Finn was doing was planned as something good, and the writes made the cast/characters treat it as good despite the trauma that Santana or any LGBTQ+ person would have been going through in that situation. I think, in that episode, Finn talks about how he doesn't want Santana to kill herself but outs her. This is clearly a mistake by the writers as they most likely saw this as a good way to push Santana. You do have a point but I was more arguing for the fact that these are characters with people who don't quiet understand what they are writing. (Sorry, I didn't really read over my comment so that could be confusing but take it as another point if I didn't make it.)
@m_nico_4 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I find it weird how Ryan Murphy kinda failed to represent minorities because he himself is gay and married.
@theworstapollo57193 жыл бұрын
@@m_nico_ I mean, there's more than just a gay man in the show. You know that right? And, if I can check real quick, he's white. So, I didn't really expect him to be able to understand all the stuff we go thought when he's just maybe two to three steps down on the power scale from the average white, cis, male.

for anyone trying to defend Finn here, please know that outing someone is one of the most traumatic, hurtful things you can do to someone, especially if they live somewhere that isn't accepting or they have homophobic family members. No, it wasn't right of Santana to body shame him, but he had NO RIGHT to out her. Remember when Kurt wouldn't out Karofsky even after he bullied him so horrendously? Okay i understand santana shouldn't have been rude to finn tho she kinda had a point ab the Rachel thing but you should NEVER under ANY circumstances out someone in a public place like that. It's dangerous and can be traumatic for the person. Sexuality should not be abused by someone that way especially if they're not exactly comfortable with themself and accepting it yet. If I had been outed like that where I live, who knows what would've happened. Luckily I had the chance to make it a slow and progressive process so it gave people the chance to come around to it. True. I don't think she would actually out him or shout it in a hallway, but she still threatened, which is bad. I don't think Santana is an angel, the writers made it clear that she was a villain in the first 2 seasons. I just hate that Finn was made to be the good guy when he outed Santana and pressured her out of the closet. Once again, Finn is the hero. The straight white male savior. Yawn. He should have faced consequences and been held accountable. I wonder how it would have gone if Santana didn't forgive him so easily.
