Glad I watched this video. I also place the gunport covers a little high so will have to trim. Your tip came in handy for me 😀 at least I haven't place the wood strip's to inside bulwarks yet so will know where to stop due to your tip. Think I will watch your videos before I start each step lol

Nice job John, now if you really want to go down the rabbit hole you could use bamboo strips to fill in the holes from the pin on the deck, this will look like wood dowels plugs and if you want to go even farther down the rabbit hole take a soft pencil and color 1 side of the planks to fake the caulking between the planks. It is a real time consuming process but it would look cool. I will be doing that for the USS Constitution that I am doing now - still in the framing parts now so it will be a bit before I get there. I've watched some of your other builds and they are good so keep up the good work. And only go down the rabbit hole as far as you wish too because you and add so much more time to any build and never get done or seems that way....lol keep up the good work

Thank you very much fro your kind words!!! The stern piece will be covered up with the metallic piece of the officers quarters ,so no hole will be seen. I can't use pencil drawings on the wood because when i use wood sealer as an undercoat the pencil will make a smudge. Thank you again!!!

Hello John. One more good video lesson. However, it looks like you didn't have to do all the work on the lower deck, from where the mast hole is, because it will be hidden. Do you agree?

Thank you very much!!! Yes you are right, but no harm done, i just did some extra work :)

John, since you are going to be covering the deck with planking, how important is it to have such a tight fit (squeaks when you are putting it in place) when placing the sub-decking?
@JohnsWoodenShips5 жыл бұрын
You are right Bob, when i was placing the back piece of the stern i didn't find anything in the instructions about planking the inside, that's why nothing was mention. But later (after i made this video) when i looked up in several photos after ,i found out that the inside did had planks. For this model to have a tight fit it is not necessary, you are allowed to have as much as 1mm gap ,not more. For other models that i have made this part was crucial.

Sorry but i have bought that from a Greek store around 2001 so i do not believe that the store is around anymore because the owner was around 70... And back then the e-shoping was not as it now in Greece.

The scraper is a really handy tool! I used a knife to cut the planks. I need to find the scraper here in the Netherlands, but I can't find it :(
