I loved this conversation. This is coming from someone who fully bought in to the Steelers culture and saw success and knows what it takes. Hearing Santonio break that down while shattering TV and media expectations vs. reality in the locker room is a breath of fresh are something fans are ignorant to or lose sight of.

This is the type of point of view fans will never fully understand because we do not play professional football. What a team needs or who the team needs, the quality of the individual at a certain position relative to what the coaches see day in and day out, a fan's opinion will never have validity. We can respect opinions of a fan, but these teams work each and everyday with these players and have the best insight on what is important for the team. I hope we get more and more former players speaking from the inside once they have moved on from their professions so fans can hear that life from those who have done it.

Does Pickens do those things? Honest question. I mean maybe he doesn't have to as he is always running a pattern and they have to respect him. Maybe they only need one of those guys. I don't know. That "Steelers Way" of playing wide receiver is not how I hear people talking about Pickens. Which may not even be fair. I just don't know.

I agree. But we can't have 2 of those guys. Roman will be that "Steelers" wr for us. Remember Hines was a 3rd rounder with huge injury concerns because he doesn't have an ACL. That worked out pretty good

Santonio acts all nonchalant about the trade idea and might be missing the target on HOW TO WIN. He played along side Hines Ward who also had over 1000 yards the year they won the Super Bowl in 2009. Who else is going to get 1000 yards this year other than GP? Probably no one. On top of that, the 2009 Steelers had Heath Miller who brought in almost an equal number of catches compared to Santonio. Is Muth gonna do that this year? No. Santonio averaged 78 YPG receiving that year. Hines averaged 73 YPG. . . this year Pickens is our only receiver averaging barely over 50 YPG. Our next true wide out is average SEVEN POINT SIX YARDS PER GAME (7.6). Get real Santonio. This team needs more weapons in the air. I hope Roman Wilson is somewhat of an answer. Our Hines Ward to Santonio. This is the only way I see a trade not being necessary if we wanna win it all this year.
