Fun fact: Alex didn't write the drums for this EP. He came in when Cove did for that EP the one with the beetle. Pat Magrath did the drums for Translating the Name. Insane to think he wrote stuff that complex back then tho :O

Wild to think he was a cigarette smoker (might still be I dunno?). I saw one of the first Circa Survive shows and barely anyone was there and he was just standing by himself outside smoking a cig, and I was thinking "Wtf man, nobody here to see Anthony Green and he's just standing outside by himself smoking a cig?" Wild to think about. I wish I said hi!

Pat McGrath still killed these songs better than Alex... and technically wrote the drum parts that Alex is playing but man Pat was a beast. I remember buying the Translating The Name EP a week or two before my Junior Prom and while on our way to dinner with our dates, me and my best friend at the time had our dates in my car and I put TTN and would crank the bass up all the way just to hear Pat's insane kick drum skills. Gotta remember, back in 2004/2005 (it was April of 2005 this particular day) this entire genre of music was not only taking over the world with labels like Drive-Thru, Epitaph, Razor and Tie, Nitro and the bigger guys like MCA, etc.. but was still just beginning so Saosin and Anthonys voice wasn't something anyone hard really heard before except back in the day with Rush (not nearly as heavy though, lol) and Coheed was just coming up to around this time and Claudio was the only vocalist comparable but I still prefer Anthonys music to Claudios.. especially AG's solo stuff (his collab with Chino Moreno.... fuhgit about it.. amazing) but dont get it twisted.. Coheed is classic.. Welcome Home.. one of my favorite intros to a song ever and sooo fun to play on the guitar.. and NOT easy to nail the timing of it with that three string roll that isnt as easy to execute over and over and over without messing it up... especially when you throw in the pinch harmonic on the 7th fret on the G string then another pinch harmonic on the 7th fret of the D string... but damn fun to play. Then the main riff with the open E string and 7, 9, 10 frets on the A string... sooo powerful sounding with the other instruments. Anyways, I still prefer Circa Survive to Saosin but the early Saosin with AG was sooo freakin good... sucks I never caught them live. The bands from NY and PA like Glassjaw and Dont Look Down (caught them twice in OKC at The Green Door with Senses Fail(Pennsylvania band) and Rufio then again with another PA band in The Starting Line and man.. Dont Look Down, those dudes live were sooo much better sounding than on their records... sooo crazy loud and heavy sounding live.) Most of these bands of this time were so insanely better live which was strange but dang.. Thrice was another badass band from this time. Artist In The Ambulance is a classic... Paper Tigers... smh... gotta be intense and almost scary to witness live. Then my personal favorite band of this era who I finally caught live in 2016 in Tulsa with Modest Mouse was none other than ANOTHER New York band.... BRAND. NEW. I was on the floor too so literally 30-40 feet from the Jesse Lacey... and omg.. MM was headlining but you could tell that they knew they couldn't follow BN.. MM didn't even seem too thrilled to be playing but they put on a decent set, regardless. This was when "The Ground Walks With Time In A Box" was their lead single.. and the live version is so much cooler than the record version.

@@moredatesmorefiber3526 very funny.. I’ll uh, be sure to do that when I don’t already know how. I mean it’s this type of writing that got me a 32 and 30 out of 38 possible points on both reading/comp and whatever you wanna call the other one on the ACT back in Nov. 2004 towards the end of my first semester as a Junior in HS when most seniors couldn’t even score that high on both parts not to mention the 4 page handwritten essay at the end of the ACT that my results said, “you stick to your topic with no grammatical or punctuation errors.” I’d love to see anyone who reads this hand write 4 pages about the efficiency of homework compared to doing the work in a classroom and not have a single spelling error, punctuation error or hell, a single error at all. But thanks for the tip, I’ll be sure to do that. Lol… smh. What’s great about it.. is that I know I’m capable of writing long essay form comments and being lazy with it because of the fact that from the time I was in kindergarten all through high school, I was in advanced reading and writing classes and didn’t even try. I got paid to write my friends essays for them many times and they never got less than a B but would get C’s or D’s when writing themselves so.. make fun of me but it was an easy way to make weed money as a Junior and Senior.. and it was the single reason I got accepted into the University of Oklahoma as a Junior and didn’t have to worry about doing anything my senior year because I was already accepted into a good school. I’ll gladly teach your girlfriend to write, though.. or your mom.. or sister.. I’ll write my name on their ass cheeks with my load.

If Anthony Green never left this band, I believe they’d have such an amazing discography and so much more success. But sadly, they were only able to release a single EP until they reunited with a studio album 13 years later. Which was insanely better than only their second album before they basically called it quits. Not saying Green made this band, cuz Alex is a fucking amazing drummer, and their guitarists are pretty damn good. But Anthony definitely just brought out the best in all of them.

Last time you gave the self-titled a listen from front to back? It’s a 9/10. The only issue is the repetitive choruses. Other than that, a classic gem.
@joelco92
@joelco92 Жыл бұрын
@@GoAsCloseAsYouCan Their self-titled is ok, but in my opinion they lost a step when Green left. Music is, of course, subjective, so one person’s opinion on an album doesn’t mean they are completely right or wrong in their opinion. But to to me, their self-.titled is decent, it just doesn’t add up to when Green was in the band and then came back to make their last album. It is by no means bad, but Reber isn’t close to as talented as Green IMO. For one, Green has such a distinctive voice, and is also a great mix of melodic and screaming vocals. Not to mention, his lyrics are great, whereas Reber’s lyrics and voice are nothing special IMO. Green also had much more memorable hooks, and when he didn’t have memorable hooks he made up with it with great, passionate screaming vocals. Sure, there were some good songs on their first LP (Voices, Collapse, Bury Your Head) but those are really the only memorable songs to me on that album. Every other song is either just decent or completely forgetful. I’d rather listen to just about every song on their first EP or their last album besides those few and far between songs on their self-titled album. Anthony Green is special and has an instantly recognizable voice, along with great screaming vocals. If I heard a random song by Weber, I’d most likely have no idea who it is. Which brings me back to my original point. If AG never left this band, I believe Saosin would be a staple in hardcore music, and released many great records.
