Very good day to you too 1. When we are designing the structure, we consider fixed supports at column base, which denotes the connection between column and footing. 2. After the analysis and Design of the structure is complete, we go for the design of the foundation as per the soil test report and the support reactions obtained. In soil structure interaction we try to study the effect of the soil on the structure and vice-versa. For important buildings this additional check is quite important.

Can u tell me. Why would i need soil interaction when i can export this model to safe and assign mat with subgrade modulus there in safe. Please let me know whats the difference by doing soil interaction and doing it in safe software.

It's in the name, in normal design we consider fixed support, so we do not consider the effect of the foundation size on the stiffness or stability of the structure. So, summarising some projects will require this then we have to perform this.

Hello, I want to run a MODAL Analysis and calculate the Modes of the structure by simulating the soil as here. Do anyone know why the "Mass Participation Ratio" with this method is too low (5-10%) ? Is it not possible to run a Modal Analysis with this method?
