I feel glad that I have served as Camp Health Incharge for Bhutanese Community when you guys were Nepal. Yeah I celebrated Dashain/Tihar together with Bhutanese Community in the camp. Actually, we were not allowed to stay in the camp at night but we broke the rules and celebrated the festivals together in the year 2009. Those were really beautiful days. Nostalgic. Time flies by really fast. I had never met Manju then but since she represents Bhutanese community, I feel a sense of “closeness” to her! You might have bitter experiences from Nepal because the host nation itself is poor and weak who could not afford much and it was depending totally on the donor agencies for supplies. As a weak nation, it could not negotiate well with Bhutan for your rights of repatriation with dignity (India always played a villain role) because existing Gov of Bhutan is just a puppet of India and it did not want any political power in Bhutan which could oust monarchy or which could compete for greater political freedom. If that happened, may be Bhutan would not be a protectorate of India anymore. Now, lots of years have elapsed, new generation might know what was the scenario back then. Most of the Bhutanese now residing in western countries were either born in the camps or they were too young when they entered Nepal, so they might have never seen Bhutan in their life. But as a neighbor, I know what had happened back then, what hardships you went through. Finally, you must have found some solace after successfully reestablishing in a foreign land. At least, this poor nation provided you shelter (of course those were really low quality because of the Gov policy, permanent infrastructures weren’t allowed to build) and there are several Nepalese who still love you. Best of luck & love u all fellow Bhutanese! This is a nice rendition !
