Sveinn Sveinsson No not exactly a rip off. Most Italo disco/hi-nrg songs from Germany have the same beat and tempo. Check out Modern Talking, Silent Circle, Joy Bad Boys Blue. All have that Self control style. An actual Self Control rip off is The Flirts - Helpless

I get what you mean by the Flirts reference, however, the first 20 seconds of this tune, synths and even the underlying guitar solo are 100% like Self Control. The only thing they do is sing the song in a slightly diffirent melody.

For my money, this is The Flirts best album. Although their huge hit 'Passion' is not here, you get instead the tremendous 'Helpless', 7 minutes of pure fab disco. Any resemblance to Laura Branigan's 'Self Control' is, of course, purely intentional. Bobby O has a habit of adapting his trademark sound to match any passing chart success that grabs his attention, but luckily in this case he copied one that suits the group performing it perfectly, and as a result, "Helpless" is one of the Flirts finest singles. And so what if it's accompanied by 4 or 5 tracks that are exactly the same...you should know this if you are a Bobby O fan!
