Ichiyama Mao is definitely the premier Japanese marathoner heading into the Olympics. If the weather is very hot I would expect Honami Maeda to do well. Both ran to form with half marathon times in line with their recent marathon efforts. Great to see Suzuki Ayuko back running injury free and posting a good time. Mizuki Matsuda consistently proves herself post her MGC race effort. It is such a shame she has missed out on Olympic qualification as her current form indicates she and Ichiyama are the two top marathoners based on recent results. Nice to see Reia Iwada posting a great half marathon time too (just behind Honami Maeda) given her disappointment in Nagoya marathon in March! Great test event. Well done. 👍

I agree with most of the things you wrote. Honami Maeda might not be back in her old shape - after all she had a faster half marathon passing time at Osaka marathon earlier this year - but at least this was a much better performance than her 10000m time of 33:25 ten days before, which gives hope that she will be back in top shape at the Olympics. My only concern about her is that she still refuses to wear carbon-plated super shoes, which is a big disadvantage against a field full of women who do. And about Mizuki Matsuda: Sadly there always is a chance that not all three qualified athletes will make it to the starting line, so I hope the japanese selectors are wise enough to choose her as alternate in this case and not Rei Ohara, who finished in front of her at the MGC race, but unfortunately struggled since then.
Honami Maeda must not like running in the 'super' shoes. She is running at a self enforced disadvantage. I'd like to see her try the new Asics Metaspeed Sky/Edge but I guess she must not feel comfortable in them. It reminds of when Federer for years played with a smaller sized head racquet (out of tradition/stubborness) and put himself at a disadvantage for a few years until he switched to a bigger head and found himself doing much better.

she proved herself at the mgc trials when she beat 9 other women who were mostly wearing carbon shoes. i believe in her principles
1:16:30 the German girl Katharina Heinig seems to want to thank this Japanese girl for the leading or to congratulate her. The Japanese girl looks a little strange

yes she looks really tired, significant eye bags compared to her last appearance in osaka marathon. maybe it might be a new makeup, dont know.

It is reported that the Sakurajima eruption occurred now. It is said that a volcanic eruption of Swanosejima occurred. If there is a volcanic eruption during the torch relay, or if there is a volcanic eruption during the Olympics, it will definitely not survive. Even now, if a volcano erupts, it will become a human fossil like Pompeii, Italy. I'll say no, but I'm not kidding. The current situation in Japan is very serious. Radioactive problems, heat waves, earthquakes, COVID-19 and volcanic eruptions will kill them all. It's going to be a human fossil. Stop the Olympic torch relay even now. Stop hosting the Olympics. Yoshihide Suga won't care about that. I'm sure Yoshihide Suga and Shinzo Abe will also be a human fossil. Japanese government figures will definitely be human fossils. Once again, I'm not kidding. This is a real situation. It will be like Pompeii, Italy. It's a real situation. You'd better put up a stop to the World Olympic Games. We must stop the Olympics. I will fight with the Japanese government and IOC until the end. Heaven must be hoping for an end to the Olympics.
