Sara Bareilles & Jason Mraz Cohost Final Waitress Karaoke - You Matter to Me (12.17.19)

Jason was indeed there!! I called it again ;) I will share a handful of clips I got from the karaoke in an attempt to capture the feel good vibe for anyone interested. I don’t remember all the names of the participants, but they performed very well in what must have been a surreal, overwhelming experience. The crowd, cast, band, and Sara and Jason were extremely supportive and it was a very cool atmosphere. Just a bit of a step up from a typical karaoke bar to a broadway stage 😛.
This was my second time seeing Jason by surprise in a week. I absolutely love and adore Ingrid Michaelson, Sara Bareilles, and Waitress anyway, so seeing Jason for the 10th time in 2 years to the day was just a glorious bonus 😁. I realized the date I saw Jason as Dr. Pomatter in Waitress was exactly 2 years prior to this night. Sara did some singing and things onstage after the show that night too.
My family and I were thrilled to see the special karaoke ending. My sister has been a professional singer since she was 17, so she had been hoping to sing. However, she has a cold and didn’t feel up to it, especially given how challenging Sara’s songs are to begin with. She had planned to sing She Used to Be Mine. I signed up hoping to be called to sing It Only Takes a Taste or maybe You Matter to Me, despite also being terrified at the idea of singing on a broadway stage lol. I could barely sing in front of anyone a couple years ago, so I’ve made a lot of progress and was a little disappointed to not get to sing (it could’ve been with Sara too since I picked a duet).
It was an EXTREMELY fun time again. The show was great. Katherine McPhee was awesome (as Jenna), as was the entire cast, including Drew Gehling, NaTasha Yvette Williams, Caitlin Houlahan, Ben Thompson, Larry Marshall, Benny Elledge, and Christopher Fitzgerald, who is always quite the crowd pleaser as the energetic, strange, and endearing Ogie. If you have a chance to see this hilarious, beautiful show before it’s broadway run ends on January 5th, you won’t regret it. It’s also as sweet a story as Jenna’s most award winning pie 🥧 🍰 🧁

You're welcome as always! I didn't make it to the Today Show, as it would've been a ridiculously long day and it was very rainy until evening. Now it's just freezing haha. I'm curious, when you mentioned giving the cat a hug, did you mean Jason or someone named Cat? I only ask since I've heard of someone named Cat (I think) who's seen hundreds of shows and has been heavily involved in the Mraz fan community for ages. I wish I would've been called to sing so I could've gotten hugs from them!

One Sharpensanother I didn’t get to hug him this time since he, Sara, Katherine McPhee, and a few others didn’t come out the stage door like a few cast members did (and like he did the first time I saw Waitress). At least I got the high five at Ingrid’s show and plenty of eye contact haha 😆. Plus the chance to meet Sara at her show last month and being lucky to see Jason a bunch lately and meet him and his dad and Gregory Page and Toca and be interviewed by Billy last year. So I’m just so grateful for all the experiences and memories 😊. In retrospect I wish I had started singing the gorgeous new “The More We Share” chorus to get his attention when I was at the stage right after karaoke finished. I was in a singing mood since I was prepared for the karaoke, and I had just gotten to know the song the previous night. Back in July I got to chat with Toca again after a show and even showed him this random old clip I uploaded of him jumping into a dumpster lol. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!!☃️🎄🎁🎅🏼
