I learned that Orpheus was a mythological man in love who lost his wife and had a chance to bring her back to life thanks to his music that could touch every soul and living being. But when trying to lead her invisible shadow to life which he wasn't supposed to look at, he turned around by looking at her, lost her forever. Sara's ability to tell stories is such a gift to the world. She's a modern-day hopeful and brave Orpheus that makes every soul believe we can hold on to love and never turns away from it.

@sarahkosian64755 жыл бұрын
I certainly agree with all your points, I just would like to add that from my recollection he didn't give up in the sense that he just left her behind. He was explicitly told he can lead the way outside as long as he doesn't turn around to look at her. But going up he grew impatient and he couldn't hear her footsteps (obv she was a spirit) and so he turned around just before she faded aways and returned to the underworld forever. So if he had listened to the conditions to save her they could've had a life together but he didn't have enough trust and was impatient.

Literally a day before a live performance of this was uploaded to KZbin for the first time I was talking my girlfriend late at night and I remember saying, "In a single year, or just a few months you can lose so much of what you love. All the truth vanishes. The people I loved all suddenly just changed beyond recognition at the end of 2016. And no matter how much I miss the way things used to be, I can't forget none of it was true." Next morning on KZbin I hear one of my all-time favourite singers go: "I know you miss the world, the one you knew The one where everything made sense Because you didn't know the truth, that's how it works ’Til the bottom drops out and we learn We're all just hunters seeking solid ground" Sara is an angel. And may be this won't ever be a popular song or even win a grammy, but this is the kind of music that can change and save people by winning hearts. And that's all that matters. Thank You, Sara Bareilles.

@AnandamoyBandyopadhyay5 жыл бұрын
@@strawberryme08 Obviously it's a quote out of context so I can't blame you for drawing any conclusion you like. But no, not "everyone". Not my parents, not my girlfriend... Just some that I loved and trusted for the longest time of my life. It's a personal matter that I'd rather put all out in the open. Just something happened, and I ended up in a hospital when I least expected it... And that's how you really learn who your people are. When people you have trusted all your life betray and let you down and don't even care enough to say sorry you finally see the truth. And yeah, may be people never really change. It's just I didn't know the truth of who they were. And I believed in my convictions about them bcz that seemed to be my only "solid ground". The point: This is the most personally relatable song I have ever heard. Sara's Blessed Unrest had some amazing songs that I had found relatable back then to. She's not like all those other pop artists out there dissing about their way too many ex-boyfriends. Her lyrics are not about her. Not pointed. Not directed. Not about anybody. Yet so many can relate to every word. That's real music. The kind we have no appreciation for these days.
@strawberryme085 жыл бұрын
@@AnandamoyBandyopadhyay Sarah is awesome. I get what you are saying. I didn't think "everyone" but sometimes it feels that way when you go through something hard and yes, you truly do find out who your friends truly are when things get hard. I still call it an "upgrade" the people who stuck are higher quality and you know they have your back, if you are laying on it sick or injured haha. I also have deep connection to all her music. It's relatable and has depth. a lot of the people in the world now days seriously lack depth

What a beautiful commentary on your connection to "Orpheus." I love hearing about spiritual, in your case almost mystical, connections. My best friend from high school almost 35 years ago, we agreed this was one of her most beautiful of the new songs. More than any other singer, I notice how much Sara changes her voice, tone, phrasing etc. with each song. She never just opens her mouth and starts singing - she works each phrase so that it expresses exactly what she wants to say. And so many songs are sung with a unique approach. For example on her first album, on “Vegas” she sounds loose and kinda drunk; “Between The Lines” is bitter regret; “Love On The Rocks” is sassy; “Gravity” is a whispered secret. And it goes on like that album after album.

@@Invisiguy I love all the different tones in Kaleidoscope Heart. From Hold My Heart to Basket Case, to Machine Gun, to Bluebird... it's a nice ride of an album, and I totally know what you mean! @Invisiguy3 жыл бұрын
Brandon, Kaleidoscope Heart is currently her album that I play to death, too! I feel like her early songs were typically about working through her emotions, and - having already plowed those fields - on Blessed Unrest and Amidst The Chaos she is more focused on exploring interesting musical ideas. (As you probably know, Sara always starts with the musical idea, not the lyrics, which blew my mind since her lyrics are so strong!) ATC was the first album I bought, and I was hooked - but each additional album is a new “Wow...” I feel like the run of songs on KH from Say You’re Sorry on through Bluebird are like a trance - absolute perfection. That’s a real accomplishment for a sophomore album.

Your music, it's like God herself is singing to me - honestly. "Don't you turn like Orpheus". Ahh man, you said on your Times Talks interview that songwriting was a way you connect to God and it really really shows, cause there's been a couple of your songs that have been hugely significant for me - and before Saint Honesty came out I didn't connect the dots that they were yours. Your lyrics are lovely. The vibe of this song is so stunning. Your voice is angelic. Hope I meet you someday cause girl if I could explain I'm so doing it in person!

What a beautiful song.. the lyrics of Orpheus, for me, is a compliment to Someone Who Loves Me (another song in the album which is also amazingly written, listen to it if you haven't yet). I interpret Someone Who Loves Me as the song for the person who is tired or struggling and is seeking comfort/ being comforted from another person's love. On the other hand, Orpheus' lyrics sounds to me like the ode of someone giving comfort, assurance and trust to the person they love. They'll be there no matter what. This is just beautiful. Sara can convey so much story and emotions in her songs. ❤

I just heard this song for the first time today in a Sears and wow, I actually almost started crying in the middle of the men's clothing section. Thank God we've got music finder apps so I was able to find this song. This is beautiful.

Sara is the friend we long for...hers is the sound of a brave soul. She has embraced life’s contradictions and mysteries. There is no guile in her voice. How comforting to know that Sara and others like her continue to journey on undeterred by the darkness that is surrounding us all. She is the only hope we have that we can rise above our divisions and find our better selves.
