The girlfriend and I actually did this route last fall. We loved it - the waterfall was very pretty, the weather was perfect, and the campsites were homey. We ended up staying next to a big boulder near the cave falls trail junction. It was just enough to make a worthwhile overnighter.

If you really want to go as light as possible on the ridge lights, get Energizer E91 lithium AAs. I just did a "feel" test out of my stash, as I don't have a scale, and the E91s are noticeably lighter than a Duracell alkaline, or an Eneloop Nimh rechargeable. Those last 2 seem to weigh around the same,..with the eneloop being maybe a hair lighter. The E91s are MUCH better in cold weather too!

My Princeton tech headlamp also gets stuck on high when the batteries are low, but the "high" it gets stuck on is lower than its normal high mode. Whether it is intended or not, I find that it is a handy indicator that I will be needing to change the batteries soon, and I can shove some extras in my pocket if I'm going to be walking around away from camp in the dark.

Hey sintax. I enjoy watching your videos every time an email reminder comes out. You've definitely inspired me to get out and hike. I live in VA and tried the little devils stairs, had an amazing time. The next time you visit the Shenandoah national park, try old rag. It's physically demanding but so worth it and amazing. Especially the rock scramble at the top. It's like an adult jungle gym. Anyway your wife cracked me up with the "poop tree" comment. Keep hiking and posting vids.

Not to sound gross but more so ironic, the gummy bears are mostly made up of gelatin derived from pig skin as the number one ingredient. Point being technically there was bacon in your breakfast! Go you! And gummies made from these animals ingredients are actually packing a vitamin punch with Omega and fatty acids. Great trail food.

In case anybody else was wondering which size Shake 'n Pour that was, it's 5.1oz / 144g. The other size, 10.6oz / 300g, appears to be more common. Both are available online. I got the bigger size, but it'll still be useful for practicing on my back porch. Curious to see how a stainless steel pan on a whisperlite compares.
