I've never seen an arm wrestling competition before and I was surprised than there was not only one but TWO referees (I didn't even think one would be required for arm wrestling). Another surprise is that it took so long until the referee was satisfied with their grip. Perhaps he has obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
