If this was really Sarah Chang on her 5, then wow, i'm trully amazed, with all that musicality and techniques. I haven't really see a prodigy at 5 playing an advanced piece such as Introduction Rondo and capriccioso. She really is fantastic.

How someone could play with such authority. I'm a pianist and have seen a lot of child prodigy vids. Most of the time it's just a physical thing - which is why only a few become artists. But Chang seems to have a point a view to this music at 5yo.

@endoscoper Hi, thanks for posting. This is indeed Sarah Chang at age 5 (she confirmed with me) and it is truly a blessing that we could have an archive of her at 5. She actually auditioned for Juliard playing the Bruch concerto just before she turned 6! This is I guess one of the true digital testament of what is truly a child prodigy (someone who attained mastery of their trade before the age of 10). Other viewers reference the other videos in London where she plays Sarasate's Carmen fantasy on a 1/2 size violin and there is no doubt of her consumate skills and musicality. Having been born in December 10 in 1980 a lot of people confused her age to be 1 year older in late 1990 and even a video incorrectly labels it to be 1993 when she would have been 12. When you say your home movie archives you mean that you or someone would have recorded this video?

Hey - I remember when you posted this on FB and I just came across it randomly today. She was my favorite of the violin prodigies that emerged in the 80s and 90s because of her rich sound. It's amazing how that sound was evident at such an early age on that half-pint sized violin.

Yes, it was amazing to produce such a full and beautiful sound on a small violin, maybe 1/8 size, but she was already the beneficiary of excellent small violins on loan to her from wealthy donors. Those who were guiding her musical education saw to it that she had the best possible instruments for her practice and performance.
