Through Ancestry, I discovered that George Washington’s grandfather is my 11x great grandfather on my maternal side. Louis L’Amour wrote a book about a 3rd great grand-uncle who was a notorious desperado.

My great great grandfather was a Melungeon from Lecher County Kentucky. His Dad fought Union during the Civil War, then George Washington Collins decided to elope with the next door neighbor's endentured bond servant girl, Katherine Morton & go several hours north into our section of North Eastern Kentucky, Carter County.

That was a myth passed down to cover the real truth in a racist time. The dna shows they come from Melungeons are the offspring of sub-Saharan African men and white women of northern or central European origin. Many of then descend from white female indentured servants who had children with enslaved black men. Because their mother's were free they weren't enslaved

Hi there and thanks for getting in touch. We are anxious to address your concerns about AncestryDNA testing and set the record straight. With so many commercial DNA tests available, and how not every companies policies are the same, we understand that some misconceptions can occur with regards to our own privacy policy. Often we are confused with other companies and their actions and thus we are glad to have this opportunity to outline just how serious we are about protecting our members and their data. Our customers’ privacy is Ancestry’s top priority. We are privately owned and because of this, our database is private as well meaning that no government agency has access to it. We do not voluntarily cooperate with law enforcement. In fact, any attempt by law enforcement to access our data base with a third-party sample would be a violation of our company’s terms and conditions. Ancestry will only turn over DNA data when compelled by a valid court order or warrant. Every 6 months we release a transparency report that outlines law enforcement requests for member data.
