I don't think she manipulates him until they acknowledge their relationship status. Before that, she's saying she wants everything he does. But after Other Guy, she knows she has him wrapped around her finger and occasionally uses it in a memorable moment for fans.

In the 2x2 clip she does seem to be manipulating him, but, she also offers herself to him. Odd. Interesting that she sort of apologizes for lying to him, but, not for killing. (She never apologizes for being a killer.)
@SteveFresca-qk1vd8 ай бұрын
Its an odd clip. In the next scene she is traveling with Chuck and Casey to Palm Springs to find Roan Montgomery, and they take the classic picture that sits on his nightstand throughout the series. Based on the clothes they are wearing, this is when the photo was taken. That photo does not look like it was taken by someone who was just using Chuck as an asset.
@ErikLeber-td7oj8 ай бұрын
That's actually probably the most truthful she ever is with Chuck, until the scene where he drunkingly asks her if she loves him. She had always hinted at it pretty strongly, but this was probably the most obvious she was about it, without saying the words. I'd even argue that Sarah trying to hide her past from him, was another way of her trying to accomplish the same thing. She was worried it would change how Chuck thought about her, which is why it meant so much to her when he says that he doesn't need to know about her past (2×4).

@ErikLeber-td7oj8 ай бұрын
And to be fair, she was trying to help him. It wasn't just trying to complete her mission, she was trying to help him get his "normal life" back, which at this point was always what he had said he wanted. So at this point, Sarah was willing to help Chuck get what he said he wanted, even though it would have gone against her own interests (deep down, she knew was in love with Chuck, she just wouldn't admit it and didn't know how to handle the situation) and would've ultimately meant she likely would never see him again because she would've just been reassigned. It shows, even at this early point, just how much she cared about Chuck (even though she could never admit it, yet). The way she looks at him, it's not just a manipulation to get what she wants.

I think I know why this show failed. It seems that they started him out as a normal, timid, awkward, inexperienced, weak, geek and they Never moved him on from there. Sure, he should not have become Bond, Jame Bond but in nearly every clip I see him whimpering about his insecurities. They never knew how to move his character forward as the series went on, he is always the exact same guy that you see in the first episode. Keep it "episodic" as the saying goes.
@SteveFresca-qk1vd6 ай бұрын
He did grow but you are right. He was pretty wimpy, and it hurt the believability factor sometimes.
@enrico12314 ай бұрын
It's not that they never knew how to move his character forward. They tried with the red test, but chuck knew that he couldn't kill the spy because that would make sarah go away. Sarah's in love with chuck from 1x01, becoming a real spy would've meant he changed forever and sarah wouldn't be in love with him anymore
@MFAN11004 ай бұрын
Chuck being the same person is a main oart of the show, but to say he hasn't changed at all is incorrect, he retains inoortant core traits, but he does grow more confident and capable as the serirs goes on.
@martyrobinson35664 ай бұрын
@@MFAN1100 That concept is the main problem right there, someone decided that Chuck being, timid, inexperienced, sweet, shy, nice-guy, etc. were the „main core of the show“. It is not. A show can start out that way, sure, but if they stay that way, or near it, it is lost. I can think of a dozen stories where power is thrust upon a relatively average person (Spider-Man, Green Lantern, Neo, Shazam etc.) and the Core of the story is to show how they change and grow to be able to handle that „great power“. It´s the Hero`s journey. If you „keep things episodic“ you make things boring and stunt the progress. I remember another show like this, the School Teacher who became the „Great American Hero“. Grew a little but ended up not really doing anything or going anywhere. We should have seen the Power mad Chuck, The burdened with power Chuck, The almost Evil chuck, The Mad chuck and finally, the Hero Chuck.
@MFAN11004 ай бұрын
@@martyrobinson3566 I personally disagree, we do see Chuck grow, the closest one out of the similar characters you provided (that I don't really know rhat much about, but from what I do know) is Spider-Man I'd say, his core traits don't change (though due to being a comic character, this isn't always true) he's always a good kid who helps people because he can, granted he makes mistakes and fails at times, but the core trait of being a good guy that wants to help doesn't change, same with Chuck. Not every story where the protagonist gets powers needs to have them change drastically, Chuck is a fundementlly good guy, and that's one of the main sources of struggle in the series where he has to be a spy. In my opinion, Chuck becoming like Bond wouldn't have added to the show, because there's other stories that do that, Chuck stays true to his values (as much as he can) and comes out on top (mostly), I think that concept is more entertaining than the alternative. Though that's my opinion, I'm not a critic so I can't deconstruct and judge the story based on it's literary components, nor do I really want to, I enjoyed it and that's what really matters in the end. If you think differently, then that's fair as well.
