Guys, Jack is totally going through a growth spurt!! Cranky, hungry and sleeping deeper and longer than usual. You'll see it in a few weeks. Things that fit him last week will start to appear a little snug. You are amazing parents. Give Jack lots of snuggles while you can because time flies when you're having fun! Much love and blessings. ❤

Totally thought the same thing ... Jack is growing! He's going to be taller than Momma soon & start looking like a little man instead of a baby! Bitter sweet for sure! Side note: my son was older than Jack but he went through a growth spurt & his feet grew 3 sizes in 2 weeks. He had a lot of pain & would just free fall to the ground because of the pain. He was also very hard to wake up & a bottomless pit with food!! He was my first & I was so scared! I rushed him to urgent care - growing pains - alternate Tylenol & Advil!

As a mother of three grown children. You need to always have a small pack of wipes in your bag. Or a wet washcloth in a ziplock. You won’t forget next time. I bet he’s having a growth sleet. My kids always took longer naps when they were growing a lot.

When does that usually happen? My son used to sleep longer stretches during the day and night now it seems every week it gets more difficult to get him to sleep and stay asleep. He's only 5 months. I've tried doing all the things recommended. I tried a schedule, I tried putting him to bed early, a bit late... it seems the only place he likes to nap for long stretches is on me! 🤯
@LK-dx2oq
@LK-dx2oq 2 жыл бұрын
@@scoobz4177 Well, your child is only 5 months. You won’t notice the growth spurt sleepiness until he’s older. Even though they grow so much in the first 2 years. Truthfully, my first son slept all the time as a baby. My next two children didn’t sleep through the night until they were two years old. I feel for you! It’s really rough on the parents when they are bad sleepers. I was at my whits end. I wonder if he likes the sound of your heartbeat? My children are all adults now. I really don’t know what is out there for babies these days. I wonder with all the newfangled stuff out there, if they have something that simulates a heartbeat sound you could put in his crib. One thing I did was get all of them on a strict bedtime routine. I started after dinner. Bath, story time and a little song and in bed by 8:00pm. They were so used to it they would ask their baby sitter to put them to bed. They were ready. Always blew away the sitter. They always told me. Your kids wanted to go to bed, they were always surprised. Truth is, they love routine. It will give you time in the evening to connect with your partner and have some adult time. You will never be sorry you got that going. I wish you luck! This too will pass. The thing most children are great at is, making their parents lose sleep Really doesn’t matter their age. As time goes on, it won’t be them not sleeping that will keep you up. Hang in there!! Rules, boundaries and discipline are the keys!! They really like knowing what to expect. All mine turned out to be really nice respectful adults. I wish you the best!
@scoobz4177
@scoobz4177 2 жыл бұрын
@@LK-dx2oq I try to stick to a routine the best we can. We do a bath every other day. I use a white noise machine. His bed time is around 7-8 pm. The problem is that he doesn't know how to put himself to sleep if he wakes up. I've gone and made him used to rocking/holding to sleep and using a pacifier, or in some cases him using my breasts for falling asleep! He doesn't sleep well in his crib either. He prefers to sleep with mum and dad too. He definitely sleeps longer stretches when we bed share, which we do safely! I guess we'll make it through
@LK-dx2oq
@LK-dx2oq 2 жыл бұрын
@@scoobz4177 Well, like I said, he’s only 5 months. I am an old lady and although I have never done the “shared bed”, I’ve known several people who did. They were always complaining their kids wouldn’t go to bed without a parent. Which meant, they never got time to themselves because one or both would need to take time to go lay down with them to get them down. Then you get up to go have your free couple hours and they will wake up. I’ve heard more than 1 person say after they found out I could simply do the routine and lay them down and it was lights out. That they felt they had created a monster!!! The fact is, if you are always there to soothe them, they don’t learn to self soothe. I am of course not trying to tell you how to run your household, still, my past tells me that if you continue to bring him to bed with you. This will continue for a long time and I don’t believe you are doing yourself or him any favors. I watched a show years ago that addressed this issue. I wish I could remember what show it was because it’s probably here on KZbin somewhere. In any case. It was a famous pediatrician who was helping this young family to get their child to go to sleep in his own crib. They would go into this child’s room every time he made a peep. They would pick him up and then be walking hall’s for hours. This Dr. said, you have to allow them to learn to self soothe. He explained, if you never give them the chance to self soothe, you are doing yourself and the child a great disservice. The child doesn’t learn this if you are always there to do it for them. They showed them how to do it. So they set it up like this. Over a 5 day period, they set up a camera in the baby’s room. They told the parents to put the baby to bed on his own and left the room. Oh my goodness!!! It sounded like the poor kid was being murdered. He cried like crazy. Day #1 They told the parents to let him cry for a couple minutes. After a couple minutes they were told to go into the room and make sure he was fine and to let him know they were there. They checked on him told him everything was going to be fine, rubbed his back a second and left the room. After a minute he started screaming again. They waited a bit longer to go in the next time. The Dr was funny, he told them, I promise this is harder on the parents than it is the child. The first night was rough. Each time he woke up and started crying, they would wait a bit longer. Then go in and make sure he didn’t need a diaper change and to let him know they were there. All the time there was a camera on this child. It was hilarious because we were watching this child the whole time. He’d lay down for a bit then get up and start in again. Day #2 same, except they had to leave him longer and longer each time before they would go into his room. Day #3 the baby was a bit better. He would stay down longer before starting to cry. Day # 4 was amazing!! He was starting to get it. This child was already pulling himself up. So he would be standing up and looking around for a bit then start crying. They waited to go in and he would stop crying, then start up again. Then they went in and checked on him, told him it was all fine and left. By the end of day #4, He was pulling himself up and looked around a bit then he sat down in his crib and grabbed his blanket and laid back down himself. Of course the parents were watching the whole time. They couldn’t believe it. He was soothing himself. As I remember day 5 he only woke up twice but he didn’t cry. He would pull himself up, then sit back down then lay back down and he would go back to sleep on his own. The interview after with the Dr was funny. They both agreed it was all harder on them than it was the child. The Dr said they had created separation anxiety for the kid. He didn’t know how to soothe himself. The parents were skeptical in the beginning. They felt they weren’t attending to him properly if they let him cry. The Dr made a good point. This child is not going to cry himself to death. You were there if he really needed you. Anyway, if I were you, I’d start that now!!! You will never be sorry you have your own time in the evening. It’s only been 5 months. I wouldn’t expect a 5 month old to sleep through the night. Like I said, I had one who slept all the time and two who didn’t sleep all night through until they were two. They are all different. I would expect them to string a few hours of sleep together though. Babies are all narcissist’s. That’s just how it is. Young children want attention and they want it now. In some circumstances that is fine. Of course you want to be attentive, you adore your child and always want to be there for them. However, they need to learn to be there for themselves in the event you are not. I am of course referring to as they get older. The training starts when they are young. Look up what state a baby’s brain state is. They are basically in a hypnotic state absorbing and learning patterns. Everything they are learning now, transfers to adulthood. I understand there are many families out there that adopt the family bed model. Everyone does what they feel is best. I guess what we need to think about is. Is what I am doing now going to make them more dependent or independent in the end. Also you have to ask yourself, am I doing this for myself or the child. One could argue, the way I did it was for me because I mentioned having my evenings with my spouse. Okay, think how your sex life is going to be with a two year old in your bed. Everything I have said here is because of what I have seen through others who have not helped their child to start at a young age at learning to be independent. I always said, “ you give your child an inch and they will think they are a ruler”. He’s got you wrapped around his finger. He already knows how to manipulate you to get what he wants at 5 months old. Think of how it may be in a couple years when he will go through the terrible two’s. He’s learned to pitch a fit to get what he wants. When he’s two it will be much,much worse. Again, I wish you the best! Parenting is the hardest job you will ever have. It’s hard to say no. Sometimes, No,is what they need to hear. Much luck to you and your partner!

@@LK-dx2oq tough part is we don't have a dedicated room for our son. He sleeps in the same room as us. We can only afford a one bedroom apartment at this point. So maybe letting him cry for all hours of the night isn't best for our sleep either, especially for my husband since he has to wake up in the morning. So I have no other choice than to go in there when my son starts crying and help soothe him. Its my husband, myself, my son and the grandfather all in one bedroom. Id love to teach him to self soothe but I guess I just have to settle for bed sharing now. Its the only way I can get him to sleep longer. About sex.. I really have no desire for it. Im terrified of getting pregnant again... so I don't mind that. Oh and by the time he's two years old he would be old enough to spend some time at my parents house. Its just tough right now.

My two month old got stung by a bee in the temple on Halloween! While waiting for the doctor to call back my sister in-law grabbed the Clorox and carefully dabbed it on the sting. Within seconds the redness was gone and she settled down! Even the heat was gone! All we could see was the puncture mark and that didn't didn't bother her! That was back in 1980 and since then I have used it many times and it always works exactly the same way. Immediate relief! Hope this helps y'all! Hugs to you and that beautiful baby!

Derik I watched this film with incredible joy, you have become the best dad for "Buddy" and Sara knows now that she's a bit freer to reconnect sometimes with friends which Dads usually do but forget what Mom's need. You could have done zip while Jack slept...you cleaned! You could have just stayed inside and let Jack be bored and feeling how much he missed his mom, nope you made sure your little "buddy" continued to know how loved he is. Good Jobs Derik ... you are a great father and Sara is a great Mom ... this child has the best chance in life of growing up loved and being a happy person because of his parents being so loving. The film by the way is excellent. Great Job all around Derik~ Father of the Year~

Lol, my kids used to ‘punish’ me for a few hours like that when I got home by giving me a cold shoulder if I ever left without them. Fun for Dad though to feel like they’re number one (for a little while) :-)

I got a similar treatment from my then 2-year-old when I returned from a week away. My husband and her were visiting friends and I went there directly from the railway station. First she kind of ignored me. When we finally drove home and I picked her out from her carseat, she took my face in her tiny hands and looked at me really long as if she was thinking: “Are you real? Are you really back?”. Maybe at this age they are overwhelmed and they don’t know how to handle the situation.

Derrick, you did awesome. I am going to recommend that you get Jack used to sleeping with noise. Since you are planning another baby, when the baby wakes up Jack will be up as he's not used to noise. Maybe a white noise machine in his room or soft music to start out with. I used to vacuum by my kids heads and they never woke up. Also, your son does not heed to be entertained all the time. He needs to learn to amuse himself and use his imagination. Also, please start working on his speech. He should be saying more words at almost 2 years old. Please don't talk to him with baby talk. I know he's your first, but you may want to work on these suggestions now before #2 comes. All is suggested from me with love. 👍♥️

This entire video was so adorable. You are an amazing family. Derick , you did a great job while Sara was gone. It's definitely nice to have your husband say that you need a break, a get a way. Those were great naps that Jack took. Hopefully he keeps up with the good naps. Derick, your a great daddy and husband. I am so glad Sara is back home with her men. Ok one little big man! Love you guys so much ❤️

You exhausted him which is great. So few children get to go out and are stuck inside with no fresh air and can't just be a kid. Jack is blessed.

You two are so sweet. I am so happy that Derick is willing to be with our his other half for her 3 days that shows a great relationship. Derick you did great with Jack. Good for you with the controlling yourself around the bee, lots if parents don't get that and put their fears onto children. Well done Derick x

wow, he’s definitely a gem!!! I NEVER would be allowed to do anything like this. 😢 The father of my now 2 year old daughter wouldn’t even let me go for so much as a 30 minute walk by myself to sit at the riverfront and draw or have any alone time whatsoever. And no, I am not with him anymore. It’s now just baby and me all day every day. If I could find myself a man or woman that was as great as this I would keep them forever!!! These two are major couple goals 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
