Respect your equipement we have just done the cape york with only 1 casuality and that was a steady leg on our new van Car has a heap of red bull dust and the tail gate has a recall issue but all in all a great experience and glad we did it.

Good work on reversing the battery. You wouldn't expect to need to pack a spare alternator for a trip. Somedays vehicles just have to much electrics

haha im traveling in a 150 and im onto my 5th alternator. i always have a spare alternator and starter motor on me especially if im doing deep crossings.

Hi guys We did the Cape trip last year with swags family of 4 from Victoria. Same car as yours and yes our alternator also died up there but we never got flooded luckily 😉....we then had to also replace the starter motor on our way home in Cairns. Just open the back of the alternator and clean out the brushes. Easy enough to do , and given that you were parked up for a couple of days would have saved you running your natteries down. It's also a lot cheaper than 450 dollars. I've lost count of how many times I've done it.

This happened recently to my hilux, and my car was written off. Same with you my electrics worked for a few days then all the electrical gremlins started happening then the car just died then it was that bad it was written off. Good luck with your car

Percy drawing 30 odd amps for 4 hours how did that flatten your van batts should have only been around 120ah used less than a 3rd of what you have? Love your videos too guys keep it up.

Failed alternator Seems like a common prado problem, being set so low Alternative is a fully sealed unit but it isn’t cheap Maybe a 4 inch lift might be in order Travelling in groups is the best way

G;ad to see things coming rite for you both We spent 2 days camped at Nolan’s and the smart ones hooked up before going in and the tow vehicle just took up the slack If they started going down they were straight into towing without all the “boat ramp panic “ That’s an expensive pice of water to cross isn’t it 🤦‍♂️, they stop for lunch on the dot 🤔 Having a local contact is priceless 👍 I’m coming over at the end of the month and will be looking at some vans before heading home😎

Not that it would help with the Alternator issue, but do you think if one tapes up the doors from the outside with duct tape before entering that might stop the water entering your cabin? I have never seen this done when crossing deep water though.

I remember reading years ago, that if you have to cross water that's up past your door sills, that you should close all the windows, and put the aircon on recirculation, and put the fan on full speed. The theory being that you'll create positive air pressure inside the vehicle, and make it harder for the water to push past the seals. No idea if it would work, but it sounds like it makes sense. What do you reckon?

mate I reckon your onto something! to be completely fair though when you get to a deep one the adrenaline and "pooping yourself" factor is too strong to think logically haha I would never have thought to try or do this! I will next time and in theory it would work to a degree.. I think water pressure will be far higher than the positive pressure it would take to keep say dust out. ill give it a crack next crossing we do! cheers mate

Sorry you two but after following your travels since you first started on youtube I have to say that once you hooked up with others in this Cape trip I think you tried to be too Gung Ho. I believe that you may have had fun but you have portrayed yourself as a bit irresponsible and immature. As I said, sorry, but that's how myself along with a few of my mates that also follow you think, to the stage where if this is what we are going to see in future, we may not be follower's in future .
