My reaction to Star Wars Episode 3 Revenge of the Sith. FINALLY! This is the first time watching it although at the time I saw this, I saw all the OG trilogy and the sequels. This was filmed many months ago, right before the Obi Wan series.
P.S. I had friends over some were watching along behind out of frame. They kept talking and I edited their voices out for the most part but there might be one or two instances where there's voices cheering along or talking (no you aren't going crazy if you hear cheering)

To this date, the ending lightsaber battle is still the best one in Star Wars cinema! Made even better by the fact that for most of it, Ewan and Hayden did their own stunts. That's just how dedicated they were to their roles!

While what you say is true, all of the choreography is sort of... well just that. Most of the time they are dancing with lightsabers rather than actually attacking each other. Its only purpose is just to look cool, and after a while loses any sort of emotional impact. The next duel between Obi-Wan and Vader in the "Obi-Wan" series finale is much more brutal, less flashy, and emotionally satisfying in my opinion.

I started fencing at age 6 then at age 9, in 1977, my father took me to see Star Wars. So the second Luke lit his father's lightsaber that was it for me. I had no chance to not become a huge Star Wars fan. Anakin vs Obi Wan is still the best lightsaber duel in all Star Wars movies. The fact they were underrated by the older fans was because we had hyped them up so much in our minds over about 20 years that they were bound to not live up to expectation for most people. I say 'most' because I loved the absolute crap out of them when they came out. 🥰

I was 6 when this movie came out and just loved the lightsaber fights and like you said I wasn't emtionally mature enough to understand it. And me being even younger, you probably understood a helluva lot more than me. It's always been my favorite Star Wars movie. Back when I was a kid, it was because of the fight at the end of the movie. Nowadays, it's because of how tragic of a story it tells. Hell, I've seen this movie hundreds of times and it took until I was around 19 or 20 before I cried at the part where Anakin kills the younglings and I'm not a cryer. "You were my brother Anakin! I loved you!" Made me cry even harder

It almost always happens with elderly people who were barely hanging onto life in the first place. And when they lose a spouse or a child, they lose the will to live and go downhill pretty fast. But I don't know of ANY cases where this has happened in a young, otherwise healthy person. It's FAR more likely that the emperor drained Padme's life force to save Anakin from his (deadly) injuries.

I really don't think Padmé died because of a broken heart. Her last words were "There's still good in him." She was a fighter her whole life. She wouldn't have given up on life like that. Not until she tried everything to convince Anakin to turn back to the light. I believe Palpatine actually knew how he can "save the one he cared about". I think he kept Anakin alive by draining away Padmé's life. I mean Palpatine wanted Padmé dead anyway because he saw her as a threat to his dominance over Anakin. The droid doctor had no idea what was happening, it just said what the only logical scenario should be according to its programming. I also like this theory because it means Padmé continues to live in Anakin in some form. His wife saved his life, and later his son saves his soul.

I've always hated that idea that "she has lost the will to live". There's no way that Padme would just give up like that, especially with twin babies. What you've proposed here is a nice idea, and works story wise, but I really do wonder if George just said, to hell with it, she's just dying because she's sad. Which is terrible storytelling. I don't know, but there has to be more to it than that. So I'm going with your theory for now :)

There’s a theory that Padmé died because Palpatine took her life force to keep Anakin alive to serve him, and also if she died Anakin would grow more attached to the dark side. But then again Palpatine said it himself right after Anakin turned to the dark side that he doesn’t have the power to keep Padmé alive but he’s certain they can figure it out if they work together, but maybe he was just lying
@starlighter930617
@starlighter930617 Жыл бұрын
@@corriewestcott1665 I'm pretty sure he was lying. He never told Anakin that the apprentice that killed Plagueis was him. All that Anakin knows for certain is that Plagueis and his apprentice knew this technique, that it is possible to learn this power but not from the Jedi, and that if he turns to the dark side it'll give him power to be able to save his wife. Palpatine never stated that he knew the technique nor that he would be willing to help Anakin in saving Padmé. His attachment to her was something Palpatine could exploit but after Anakin became a Sith, Padmé turned into a threat to Palpatine's control over him. Palpatine wanted Padmé dead and wanted Vader to think he killed her himself in order to fuel his pain and hatred (aimed at himself) which is a catalyst to the dark side.

From your pause at the 30:00 mark: Sidious was the culmination of a thousand years of the Rule of Two, a Sith doctrine wherein a Lord would take an apprentice, who would serve until they could kill their master - through cunning or might - and take their place. Whereupon the once-apprentice would take the mantle of Dark Lord and seek an apprentice of their own, thus repeating the cycle. "One to embody the power, the other to crave it." This meant that each generation of Sith Lord would be more powerful, more cunning, more ruthless than the one before. The Rule of Two taught the master that his or her legacy would lie in making his apprentice stronger than him. Bane, the Sith Lord who began the Rule of Two, foresaw that only through stealth and subterfuge could the Sith take over the galaxy, and he laid the groundwork forming the criminal cartels, spy networks and finances that ultimately Darth Sidious was able to use. Hope this helps explain why Palpatine/Sidious is so ridiculously skilled and powerful.

There is no way that Padme would abandon her children and just give up. Canon is silent about this but the best theory I have heard is that she and Anakin were bonded and Sideous used that bond to drain her life force to sustain Anakin and keep him alive until he could be put in the life support suit. To me this makes sense and provides an reasonable explanation for what happened. It would also mean that it was actually Sideous who killed Padme, not Anakin which is in character as there was no way he would let her live. If it happens in real life, why not in a movie with Padme? The Anakin she knew was dead. So I thought it was poetic and beautiful. I don't know any real life scenarios where humans bonded with the force or sucked life force :) But I do know of life long lovers where the 2nd lost the will to go on after their lover died despite being healthy right up to the point. There's a nice little shift in the Sith of this era, if you're aware of it. In the Phantom Menace they ask "who was destroyed, the Master or the Apprentice". It was Darth Maul. We assumed he was the Apprentice, and Sidious was the Master. That wasn't actually the case. Darth Maul was never a Sith. He was used BY the Sith as an enforcer, or an assassin. He had it dangled in-front of him. Sidious was the Apprentice, right up to the end of Phantom Menace. The same day that he got word from Naboo that Kenobi had killed Maul, he won his election, and was at a post victory party. That night he killed Darth Plageus, becoming the Master. His first Apprentice was Count Dooku, who became Darth Tyrannus (the guy who recruited Jango Fett as a clone template). Assaj Ventress was used by Count Dooku in the same way, she had it dangled in front of her, but she was never going to get it. Sidious saw Maul as a single use object. He's a brute warrior. He doesn't have the intelect or wisdom to be worthy of becoming a Sith. His second Apprentice is Vader.

I know I'm a year and a half late.. At the ending, with Darth Vader's famous 'NOOO!' scream.. I've conjured up a plausible theory to explain Padme's death, thanks to the 9th movie which is from the new sequel. Regardless if it is Disney canon, it shows Darth Sidious (Palpatine) stealing the life force of others to remain alive all these years. With that in mind, Anakin, as he awakes in the suit and hears the bad news of his wife's passing, he, in denial, yells "I couldn't have! She was alive! I felt it!", which can be interpreted as him feeling her life force as both were operated on, and blind in his rage, anguish, hate, and sadness, he ended up unlocking the power to cheat death, which is what Palpatine does in the 9th movie. Anakin, by accident, killed Padme by stealing her life force so he could live through his mortal wounds. Tragic. Really tragic. He did so many dark deeds in order to acquire the power to save his wife and in the end this same power was the one that saved HIS life by sacrificing HERS. Heartbreaker.

Finally get to see this reaction to one of my favorite Star Wars films (3rd place for me, after ESB and ROTJ), and honestly just one of my personal favorite movies of all time. I'll never forget when this came out, way back in 2005, such a great time to be a Star Wars fan; the movie, the games (particularly Battlefronts 1&2) and all the merchandise (lightsabers!!!) at the time made my year. I always found this movie fascinating for being the most tragic of the saga, and perhaps one of, if not the most important pieces of the saga for creating the bridge between two very different eras of the story. Always reminded me somewhat of Shakespeare's Macbeth; a heroic and good-willed man, led astray by promises of power via evil deeds, only for it to backfire, having lost everything dear to them and faced with consequential regret. It's always interesting when a movie has the bad guys win for a change, doesn't happen too often. It's the twists and turns, the rush of suprises and emotions that get to us, as your reaction shows. One of my most favorite things about this movie though is the fight scenes and overall abundance of lightsaber action. Among the greatest displays of lightsaber combat throughout the films, the complexity and fluidity of the movements, with each character having their own flare and approach in fighting style (an extension of the 7 forms of lightsaber combat within the lore) was just such an exciting spectacle to watch. I was already a massive lightsaber enthusiast, and this movie further solidified my reverence for it. It's one of things that make the prequels in general stand out so much for me; the way they helped elevate both the lightsaber and Jedi/Sith mystique, detailed even further in Legends (formerly the "Expanded Universe"). Such a great movie, underappreciated at the time I think, but thankfully getting the love it deserves.

What gets me every time is that Anakin doesn't actually start burning when he yells 'I hate you.' He only starts to burn when Obi-Wan replies, 'I loved you.' Well, that, and also the terrible irony of Padme weeping while looking at the Temple aflame, worried that Anakin's in danger when really it's everyone else in danger...but really it IS Anakin in danger, but a very different kind of danger than anything she could have imagined.

Sure. But at that point, Anakin felt he had no other choice, desperate and determined to not let another loved one die. If you believe Palpatine - that he did not know how to cheat death, especially after the George Lucas-approved *Dark Empire* and the events of Episode IX - then I would say that you are as naïve as Anakin. And finally, how do you think ol' Palps knew that Padme's life was in danger?

Now you know why Darth Vader didn’t think he could be redeemed he killed younglings. Fun fact the kid who steps back from Anakin when he ignites his lightsaber during order 66 stepped back because Hayden Christensen said “Boo.” and surprised him George Lucas liked the take and used it. A fan theory is that Darth Vader dying from his burns used the force to see if Padme was alright only to accidentally take her life force for himself, saving himself and killing her, if you listen closely Anakin flat lines and when Padme dies his heart starts beating again and now with the sequel trilogy showing you can use the force to heal people by using your own life force as a Jedi whos to say a Sith couldn’t take someone life force to save themselves , i don’t think Vader did it consciously but his survival instinct kicked in.

To help you understand Anakin's turn better and why he seems in a trance when pledging himself to Sidious. When the Sith supposedly went extinct over 1,000 years ago, there was one Sith who survived. Darth Bane. He recognized the Sith's down fall because they had grown so weak (a group of weaker Sith would gang up on the master, kill the master, take over and the same thing would happen to them) So he founded the Rule of Two, one master and one apprentice, to ensure the Sith would only get stronger (if the master won their duel, the master would have to look for a new apprentice, and if the apprentice won, the apprentice would become the master and look for an apprentice of their own to teach) Sidious is the product of 1,000 years of Sith evolution. Remember, he stood in the same room with multiple Jedi Council members and they couldn't sense his power because he was strong enough to mask it. The Jedi were stuck in tradition and did not seek to grow stronger. Often that was a hinderance on Anakin's abilities because he was growing more powerful, but they would hold him back like putting a cork on a bottle of soda after you've shaken it. Throughout Anakin's life, he's suffered loss; born as a slave, losing the father figure who freed him and had faith in his dream of being a Jedi, losing his mother to barbarous Tusken Raiders, losing his friends and his apprentice during the Clone War, and now he finds out he's going to lose his wife and child. He couldn't take another loss. So when Sidious "took off the mask," so to speak, Anakin was in a trance because he was sensing power like he had never felt before because for most of his life he was surrounded by people who kept their power at matchstick level, while Sidious was like a volcanic eruption. He was seduced by this power; the power to no longer be bound by anything, even death; to have his chains broken.

Indeed, the Sith had evolved over 1,000 years whereas the Jedi had only trained to fight the last battle. Yoda realized during his duel with Sidious that the Jedi had lost a long time ago, and that he was very much at fault because he didn’t allow the Jedi Order to change.

I think Padme was destined to die in childbirth no matter what. Anakin was having the prophetic dreams about Padmes death much like the dreams about his mother when she was dying. And Anakin was right, went home and spoke to his mom before her death because his dreams were prophetic.

The audio book also goes into more detail about Anakin's fear as well. In the book one of the things talked about is the legends of dragons that lived within the suns on Tatooine. In one mission Obi-wan and Anakin went to a system so old that even its sun had burned out long ago. Anakin was surprised to see that with Obi -wan stating it is the way of the force that even stars eventually die. From that point on Anakin felt as if he heard the voice of that dragon within that long dead star whispering coldly in his ear "All things die Anakin Skywalker even stars burn out" "One day you will lose Obi-Wan, You will lose Padme" "Or they will lose you" That cold dark dragon also taunted Anakin about how he lost his mother in the events of episode 2 how no matter what he tried he could not save her.

The three Jedi that Palpatine killed weren't noobies. He screamed in a very special way to intate terror in them, only Windu who is really strong willed resisted it (critical resist in that case). Palpatine already had a plan to cheat death, Pleaguis' plan. But he preferred to continue to manipulate Anakin into believing they could discover it together to prevent Anakin to assassinate him on the spot as Palpatine did with Pleaguis. Padmé could have died because Anakin drained her life through their emotional connection via the Force to preserve his own life, unknowingly of course. One more reason for Jedi not to form attachments. You can also see that Anakin nearly forced himself to stop choking her.

22:45 IMHO that scene is WAY more epic in the novelization...It basically describes how Obi-wan timed and blocked strikes from all four of Grievous' sabers...he basically let go of himself and trusted in the Force and at one point he was blocking 18 strikes per second with a single lightsaber...

It doesn't make it clear in the movie, but what Anakin wanted was the rank of Master. Being on the Council is great, but he wanted the rank that usually goes with it. Why? Because he'd had the Force vision of Padme dying in childbirth, and was going to do anything to prevent it. Knowing that if he appointed Anakin, the Council would agree, but withhold the title. By proxy, he made sure Anakin knew about the existence of this knowledge in the Jedi Archives; in the Masters Only section. She's pregnant. The clock is ticking. Relationships are forbidden, so he has to keep it on the down low, and recruit the aide of a suitable Master who could keep their secret. So when Mace Windu refuses him the rank, it's a HUGE daggar between him and the Council. Not to worry though, Palpatine worked on some of that with his Master Plageius. The Jedi aren't the only solution.

50:36 - So idk if this was mentioned in any other comment.. But if you notice here, Darth Sidious is smiling here because of the fact that he has finally won Anakin (obv now Darth Vader) to the Dark Side. If you watch Star Wars Theory at all, he has established a very long and drawn out theory (that is actually pretty good and makes sense) that Palpatine is the one who killed Padme. The visions Anakin was having of her "death" were simply mind tricks planted by Palpatine to lure Anakin to the Dark side using uncertainty and fear, and with Padme becoming his main motivation. Obviously all the other stuff involving the Council and everything was just him causing a conflict of interest with Anakin, raising doubt and manipulating him to get Anakin on his side. But the end goal was always using Padme against him. And at the end of it, Palpatine killed Padme to not only finish breaking and converting Anakin, but that also fully fuels the Hate Darth Vader grows towards Obi-Wan Kenobi that we now get to see in the new Kenobi TV show :)

Padme didn't just die from heartbreak. Palpatine explains it in the opera scene. He has the power to transfer life, and he uses it to steal Padme's life to save Anakin's. Her death gives life to Vader. That's how he already knew Padme was dead when Vader asked at the end. Otherwise, how else would Palpatine know that Padme was already dead? Even in the audio you can heart Padme's heartbeat whenever they show Anakin being worked on, and as she dies the heartbeat fades. It's beautiful (in a Greek tragedy sort of way) once you see it.

To explain to why Padme died... Palpatine didn't say how the force power that allows to save living beings from death works, he only specified that it is a possibility of the force and that he'd "discover" it together with Anakin, here comes the important bit, Palpatine knew that Anakins singular anchor to reality and light side is Padme, she was ment to die anyway in the vision Palpatine had for the future in order to drive Anakin and therefore Darth Vader into the insanity of hatred without the possibility of return, after the immolation, Sidious used Padmes lifeforce to keep Vader alive long enough to have his body reconstructed and for the life support in his suit to take over, there's a reason why these scenes go hand in hand perfectly synchronised, and just as a proof, right after Vaders helmet is sealed, and takes his first breath, his heartbeat starts at the same time, you can not un hear it after you notice it
