Not quite. Just prior to go on tour with their last album "Trial by Fire" released in October 1996, Steve got hurt while hiking and needed hip replacement surgery. The band decided not to wait and hired another lead singer to go on tour. Only in 2007 they contracted Arnel Pineda as lead singer. Arnel sounds like Arnel and he is a very good singer. He also seems to be a kind person. Steve is irreplaceable, though.

@@gamehighlights101 What concerned me? I’m aware that he has been in the band for several years. I am aware that Steve Perry was the lead, and co writer of most of their songs. I do not dislike Arnel, I just don’t like his voice and/or twang. Many people enjoy listening to him, and that is great for his image. I wish Arnel the best. Some reactors, for some reason, don’t know the difference between Steve and Arnel. I think it is because they are not true fans. A little research prior to a reaction makes things run smoothly. I appreciate you responding to me.

Who is great is subjective but IMO Arnel is Journeys longest singer more than Perry, not to discredit SP but Arnel can definitely hold its own as a singer it just so happen that he is not the original singer if it's vice versa Perry would also be in Arnel’s position. The fact Arnel stays since 2007 til now shows how much the rest of the band love him and basically revive their respective career!

If your interested in hearing any new Steve Perry songs. He put an album out in 2018 called Traces. More of a modern r&b feel than the Journey pop/rock sound, but it still good and for Steve being in his mid 70’s he still has that signature tone. If u get time to work it into your react schedule. We’re Still Here and Most Of All are the two tracks if I had to pick that are worth reacting too. They are the best to show where his voice is now. There are many other Steve solo songs to check out, but this is his latest.
