@VALERIA LATORRE AHUMADA Anarcho-capitalism isn't actually anarchism though - "ancaps" use the term anarchy to mean "no government", whereas every other anarchist uses it to mean "no hierarchy". Capitalism is in itself a hierarchical system - and so being an "ancap" is an oxymoron. They can be right libertarians, but don't let them try to convince you they share any similarities with actual anarchists when they prop up a system built on class divide.

given her popularity it’s surprises me how nobody talks about when dollskill straight up stole from bella/internetgirl. they had a relationship for a long time and eventually even sold bella’s igirl pendants on their website. but only a couple months later the pendants were off the website and instead they were selling a rip-off of bella’s she devil pendant and earrings. she’s said she doesn’t have a relationship with them anymore and no longer puts their items in her depop bundles. when it happened i couldn’t even believe how they’d even steal from someone they had such a good relationship with. they have no limits.

The other issue with the statement about the "goth is white" shirt is that they're basically saying "well we didn't intend it to be racist so if it had that impact it's not our problem." I'm going to paraphrase from Rachel Cargle, who is a lecturer who educates on anti-racism: If you accidentally step on someone's foot, don't you still apologize? Why? Because the impact is that they're in pain, even if the intent was not to hurt anyone. Editing this to add that if you're arguing over whether the t-shirt was intended to be racist or not, you didn't read my comment. I was explaining how the "apology" and how the statement "I didn't intend to hurt anyone," was irrelevant. If people from the Black community are saying they were hurt by it, just say "I'm sorry, and I'll do better." Why does it matter what your intentions are? Centering your intentions is making it all about you instead of the apology. The end result is still hurt, and if you aren't part of the community being hurt, you have no right to say if they're allowed to be hurt or not.
@mewmew61584 жыл бұрын
Wonderful way to think :)
@katie_a10754 жыл бұрын
And to elaborate on that, the “goth is white” explanation makes no sense. They said in their response that they were trying covey that goth isn’t just black clothes, so why not say “goth is all colors” or “goth is a rainbow” or some other cheesy line?

People are also really touchy these days. If it said "Goth is Black" would people be upset? I dunno. It's just really weird to me how easily people get upset these days, enough to cancel tv shows and being upset at a cartoon character from Paw Patrol lol. In context, I don't see a huge issue but I kind of get why it might sound wrong (and since Dolls Kill is known for issues I wouldn't be surprised if it was a racist shirt).
@AnnaHeey4 жыл бұрын
@@BooksToAshes i get that you're annoyed by people being overly sensitive. But this shirt is a different story. The phrases "goth is white" and "goth is black" are totally different in the way that it comes across.

@Winter Wonder The Goth Style is often associated with a very pale, white skin, which is the reason why people think of skin color when they see the phrase "goth is white". You could also do a video about good clothing brands to buy from. As someone who is only getting into fashion and clothes, I mostly hear about bad brands but ethical brands aren't really highlighted
@sarahhawkinson4 жыл бұрын
I actually don’t shop for new clothes so I haven’t explored ethical clothing brands yet! especially because of the price point, I’ll just always prefer shopping secondhand. Everlane and Reformation have proven to be a bit problematic tho so those aren’t the best brands to shop from but really well known as “ethical” clothing companies.

You can find a lot of small businesses on Etsy, you can message them directly and read the reviews/do your own research if you want to be sure
@evie23564 жыл бұрын
A great place to start is using Good on You and you can filter by particular items or find articles they have on different styles that highlight different brands. They have tons of brands and give you a sustainability rating and an overview of the companies ethics, they also showcase a wide variety of price points. Just know that sustainable and ethical clothing will always be more expensive because that is how much it costs pay their workers a living wage etc. This is a huge masterlist that you can also sort by catagory mygreencloset.com/directory/ My favourite brand, not just because they're sustainable, but because I would die for all their clothes is Lucy and Yak. You can also just shop at thrift stores or buying secondhand from depop and places like that.

I do get the fact that the dollskill instagram page linked to their own site in their bio though. If they link to another site, it might get hacked/spread faulty information/..., whereas by linking on their own site, they have complete control over what information they spread. The pop-up I'm sure is just a default in their coding, I don't think that's something that should be judged too harshly. On what you said about them being lazy for asking their followers about black owned businesses: don't you think that small businesses might have more chance to get found by them, rather then when their researching on their own without input? It might actually be a good thing. I'm not pro dolls kill by any means, just staying critical :) Lovely video as always!

I honestly didn't know about any of this until earlier this year! We definitely need people to keep bringing it up and pointing it out, because I didn't even know DollsKill was a thing in 2014 or 2016. I'm thankful people started bringing it up again this year, so I know not to buy anything from them again.
@yolainnemaryderenthal72834 жыл бұрын
i was an avid Dolls Kill purchaser until this surfaced. I think if people still continue to buy from the brand after this, it's because of two reasons: they either feel that Dolls Kill is genuinely turning a new leaf orrrr it's because the brand is one of the most well known alt stores with a varied catalog of aesthetics, which is why I bought from them in the first place. It'll definitely be more of an easier transition for people who might still lean on the brand if, in conjunction to bringing awareness to Dolls Kill's controversy, we also suggest alternative, more ethical alt brands that aren't as well known.

I was shocked when I first saw the controversies about Dolls Kill today. I got five of their items, one is a choker from a brand I don’t remember the name of and three hair bows, a dress, a skirt, and a bear hoodie from Grave Girls. I still love my dress, my hair bows, my skirt, and my hoodie. My choker was broken because one of the spikes kept falling off, so I had the super glue it onto my choker. I’m never shopping there again.

Thank you for making this video! Personally, I was willfully ignorant for a while. This was many years ago back in high school, before I became an activist as well as anti-fast fashion, but I just didn’t care. It’s so embarrassing for me to admit that but I think it’s important to admit it. Nobody is perfect and everyone has their flaws- mine was my stubbornness. Since it wasn’t directly effecting me, I justified it. Now, I use my stubbornness for good causes and I am SO happy that I am not that person I was in HS anymore. I can’t believe I gave a disgusting company like this my money, I wish I could take it all back. Thank you, again, for making this video and for using your platform to speak up. ❤️❤️

Thank you so very much for this video. I just want to say that I really appreciate you putting this together for people to watch, I am grateful to be educated. I have been following Dolls Kill since 2017, I have made a few purchases, and have browsed their clothing many times. I was quite surprised when I received my clothing, because the quality was poor, I expected so much better given how much I had spent. There is something else that really troubled me that deterred me from making future purchases, and that was some of the graphic designs they produced and sold at times, promoted rape culture and drug culture. As a trauma victim with PTSD I felt unsafe seeing a company flaunting items in this way. Having just watched your video today, I had no idea that Dolls Kill had stolen other artists designs, that is awful. I didn't know either about the Native American Headdress as a Halloween costume, and it is incredibly disturbing to me how that was handled, and I don't think it's enough how it's been addressed now, I think the owner needs to try and show empathy about the issue, and any future issue that arises. I am feeling very saddened and triggered hearing about Dolls Kill and their social media post about the Black Lives Matter movement, as it looks to me that they made an attempt to, and are still trying to profit off it. It just doesn't sit right. Their original post I really think and feel, was virtue signaling on their part, and I am at least glad to hear that people are speaking up about it. People have a right to question any company, to demand transparency, respect and better from them. I just wish Dolls Kill would actually try and do something really supportive and genuine for the Black Lives Matter movement. I don't think they have taken proper accountability, the apology was lacking, and to see that they will be donating an unspecified amount of money from 1 million dollars towards Black Lives Matters movement, from sales they make of black-owned fashion brands and designs, is dodgy as hell to me. I would prefer they donate all the proceeds, but surely they will specify exactly how much they will be donating from the 1 million dollars, otherwise this screams a scam to me. Any way, all in all, I appreciate having learnt so much more about Dolls Kill from this video. There is perhaps one positive thing I can report about the company, is that I have noticed in the past year that they have included more diversity in their models, especially in plus size which was really refreshing to see. How genuine the intent is behind this change, and how well the employees are treated, I'm not sure. I know that they recently employed LGBTQI models for one fashion shoot, I just really hope that they and all other models and employees that work there are treated well and with respect. Thank you again Sarah for relaying the information about the company Dolls Kill and owner, and your thoughts and feelings. I also want to say, that it is because of a video of yours I saw this year, that I heard about "fast fashion" for the first time. I then watched a documentary on it to learn more, and I am now being more mindful in my shopping; trying to make better choices for the environment, people and my own mental health. I've still got more to learn and do, but you have really helped and opened a door for me. You make a difference
