Hello from Texas. I have "had a go" at the applique. Just a helpful hint. When I cut my patches out of fabric, I like to use Mod Podge for fabric. It is washable and keeps the little peaces from fraying. Mix it half and half with water and brush it on the back side. Let dry overnight. You can cut out your designs and sew them down.

Enjoying watching, great tutorials. I’ve been sewing for many years but never really got into embroidery, wanting to change that and hopefully create a beautiful sampler as I’ve always admired those beautiful antique pieces. Some cat advice kindly meant and to save any unwanted injury to yourself, a little blow or stronger is much safer than a swipe of claw. 🙂

Another great. Video I have come across! You are a great teacher! Another technique to turn edges over I have used, it has cut down on bulk is sewing a thin piece of cotton fabric, tulle etc., put two pieces together, right side together. Then sew all the way around your shape. Slash down the middle, turn inside, then applique on to your background fabric after cutting out bulk material and ironing it.

Thank you for this video, I've been wondering about appliques. I do have a question: what if I wanted to make my own applique? I'm going to guess I'd have to do a sturdy stitch around the entire thing and then cut close to the edge of my stitches... or maybe I could leave a bit of the fabric and do the tucking under technique? Hmm. Just thinking out loud, I guess. 😊 The peacock piece is absolutely stunning, by the way. Seriously love it!

Im curious to know (from Sarah and the rest of you viewers at home:): What is your favorite fabric to work with and do hand embroidery on? Personally, I prefer linen or a thick cotton. Blends are OK too, but I really enjoy using 100% linen the best I think. Probably because it's what I learned on like so many others.
