It get's a 'loud' feeling, because you actually produce more overtones when you blow like that. The more overtones, the 'fuller' the sound, which makes it appear 'louder'.

Yes, !Tell us how to mic up a recorder please! If you've experimented with puting guitar effects on the microphone that would be interesting too. Recorder with Delay? Bit crusher? Harmonizer? Octaver?

Hey Sarah! I've been learning some Telemann Sonatas, and my transition from low notes to high notes is never smooth and I'll appreciate it so much if you were to make a video on that. I also have problems with my tone, my alto recorder sounds raspy and it sounds obnoxious sometimes, unlike most pf my other recorders.

Hi Marco, thanks for your message! A video on high tow low notes (and vice versa) is a great idea, I'll make one of those in the upcoming months for sure. In the meantime, my video 'How to get a good sound on a soprano' has lots of tips about air speed and blowing - maybe you can start with those on your alto and see where it takes you!

Ohhhh yes :) There are quite a few jazz recorder players out there. Check out Josephine Bode (currently ‘Improvisor in Residence’ at Moers Jazz Festival), Tali Rubinstein in NYC, or Amsterdam based trio Queens of Noize.
