NoiseXTerminator is really a game changer for astrophotography. Much better quality than most of the other PI methods.

I've really been enjoying it and have found it to be incredibly helpful. I know that third-party processes aren't always accessible for everyone due to cost but it is well worth it.

Fantastic! Straight to the point and no bla bla bla. The side by side comparisons say it all. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and I'm buying it.

Thanks for another great video, Sarah! I've been using NoiseXterminator since I started using PI last December and I really love it. (I should have watched this video before asking you about it after the Galaxy Processing video, though. Duh. Sorry.) I also completely missed the fact that it could be used for linear and nonlinear data and never used the checkbox on the process window! I always learn something when I watch your videos. 😀 Thank you again.

Thank you, Greg! No, no worries at all. I love this tool, too and am always impressed with how adaptable it is. Other noise reduction processes can be quite challenging/ cumbersome to use, especially compared to this tool. It's like night and day! Thanks again for stopping by and for all the great input!! Cheers :)

This is great! Thank you. I live in a Bortle 7/8 area. I plan on trying the free trial and give it a run for its money to see how it performs against traditional methods. 😉

Thank you, Gerry! I live in about the same Bortle and this helped a lot. I really enjoy using it before I color combine my narrowband images.The final color image ends up way smoother with lots of details still. Thanks for stopping by and watching! Clear skies to you!

Thanks Sarah. I bought this straight after I did the first image with the trial version. It’s great. Do you usually use it straight after deconvolution before doing any color combination etc? Thanks. Clear skies.
@SarahMathsAstro

It depends on a couple of different factors. But typically, yes, I use it after deconvolution. Thanks for stopping by and clear skies to you.

I really appreciate you detailing how to download this. I wish I would have watched this before I purchased NoiseXterminator. Fortunately, one of my NASA buddies told me about the licensing & the little wrench. I know that you did this a while ago, but it’s still relevant. The only thing that I don’t know about is the AI button and selection. Has that changed in the past year? Thanks and waiting with bated breath for your next video!
@SarahMathsAstro
@SarahMathsAstro Жыл бұрын
I'm glad to hear this video was still relevant and helpful, despite the age of it and software always changing. I do believe the AI button and selection has changed only in that there are more options to choose from. You can try the different AIs out and see which one works best for your data. Cheers!

May I ask how NoiseXterminator compares with Topaz deNoise or DxO Photolab deNoise features? I also have a Micro Four Thirds camera which is excellent at capturing the optimal amount of Hot Pixels. If, for some strange reason, I wanted to remove those Hot Pixels, do you have any suggestions please? I have only found one filter for GIMP which does a fair job but it also affects the whole image quite a lot. Im quite new to all this and it was quite a learning curve to understand the difference between noise and hot pixels.
@SarahMathsAstro
@SarahMathsAstro 2 жыл бұрын
I've only used Topaz deNoise, and I would say that NoiseXTerminator is comparable. As for hot pixels, I would recommend using CosmeticCorrection in PixInsight when doing your preprocessing. You can isolate where the hot and/or cold pixels are which helps a lot. I understand completely though about the astro learning curve. I know that hot pixels will tend to also be repaired during the calibration steps of preprocessing. I'm not sure if you're already taking calibration frames/ doing calibration steps but if you aren't, I would recommend that and if you already are, then maybe try tweaking some of the settings in your calibration preprocessing steps. Hope this helps! Cheers!

@@SarahMathsAstro Hello, your episode has been exceptionally helpful and I will most definitely follow all the advice. I only knew about Dark Frames and using the Noise Reduction of my Micro Four Thirds camera which produces massive amounts of hot pixels. Your cameras can't even compete in this department as I win hands down. Sadly I can only justify one camera/toy before she-who-must-be-obayed tells me off which means it has to be a "Jack of All" so I work within my limitations. Even with my noisy camera I did manage to create a test Milky Way Time Lapse that I'm quite please with. I'd be honoured if you took a look at the 16 second clip and offer ways that I could improve on future attempts.
