I love Dateko arcs. One of the reasons is that it's the first team that seems like a villain of the show, with the backstory and all that baiting before the match. But then when you see how dedicated and prideful they are, and how they interact as teammates, you start to admire and like them too. That's the essence of Haikyu!

Sarah, that moment towards the end where Asahi did the back row attack - that was when I knew Haikyuu was truly something special. I already liked it, but I always tell everyone that this episode is the first truly great moment in the show. It feels like everything builds up to Asahi hitting that ball. It really blew me away.
@iizouu3 жыл бұрын
it really caught me off guard on my first watch. I thought any moment they gave Asahi during the dateko game would've been overshadowed by his development from the neighborhood association game. I got proven so wrong lmao, they both were amazing in different ways. the neighborhood assoc was just the set-up, this is where he really got to show confidence and implement the things he'd learned since that day. I feel like the build-up was much longer than just this episode, it also drew from the Nekoma match and even before Asahi rejoined the club. this scene was so well-done.

This is where the show really starts poppin off now. Most set ups are cristallizing in the story. The Asahi backstory and his fear of the iron wall and him being the ace and having to step up but cant. Hinata and Kageyama now a really good team together, while hinata acknowledging his role in the team and being confident about it. Suga being the person on the sideline who took the job over helping the team in the background and actually having huge impacts. (Kageyama and hinata making iron wall forget about asahi and let him score). A lot of storylines inside the team now fully developed. Of course there is still more...

Aone is my second favourite character after Hinata! Thank you so much for diving deep in his blocking technique…and by extension his character. In the manga all the characters are introduced with stats such as birthday, weight, height, but also their favourite food and their current biggest worry…and Aone’s current worry is that no one will sit next to him on the train, which immediately endeared him to me, and he gets even better from there. Better start adding room to the love house for an iron wall!

Up until _that_ episode in season 3, this was easily my favorite episode of the show. The build up of Aone being this immovable force and his history with Asahi. Hinata slowly drawing more and more of his and Dateko's other blockers' attention. Culminating in the first words out of Aone's mouth being to call out Hinata with an intensity far beyond what he confronted Asahi with before the game. The reveal of Asahi coming down the pipe, finally directly confronting and conquering the source of his mental block as Aone falls away. All of this culminating in Hinata having his first real breakthrough moment and fully experiencing and appreciating his true value to his team as a decoy. And then this continuing into my favorite player vs. player rivalry in the show, between Hinata and Aone. Its just so pure. They've spoken maybe two words to each other, and yet the depths of their respect and desire to test themselves against the other are so clear. They don't rib and tease each other like Kuroo or Oikawa, or even seem like they get along as friends like Hinata and Kenma. Its just two incredibly skilled athletes, wanting to measure themselves against someone they admire, game recognizing game.

There are 47 provinces in Japan and there are about 800 mix high school and 70 girls only and 30 boys only (2022) end up around 60 schools can go to national championship in Tokyo. Fun & relaxing watch as usual! Just commenting to add my support, & while I'm at it, thought I might just mention 2 instances where the translations happened to catch my attention (though I'm not sure if she's seeing the subs we're seeing, so it might not be relevant for her...). 5:28 「トスを見てから飛ぶっていう…」translated to "When they jump as soon as they see the toss?" is more like "when they jump after they see the toss" . In the end, it means basically the same thing, I guess, but it makes more sense to add "after" for me, since they have the word「から」 & since they're laying out the difference between the commit block where you jump in anticipation with a committed spiker vs waiting till AFTER the toss is set for a read block. 23:08 「だって、珍しくお客が来てて!」translated to "Who knew it would be so packed?" should be more like "(Couldn't help it) 'cause, I/we actually had some customers!" . The way they translated it makes it sound like Takinoue was marveling at how packed the venue was, but in fact, he's making an excuse in response to Shimada's complaint for delaying the both of them. He's explaining that his electronic store, which seems to usually not get many customers, happened to get some & he had to attend to that before heading out.

I think "vanguard" and "rear guard" come from the Japanese using those military terms for volleyball and the translators just translating them literally without thinking enough about what the actual English terminology would be.

“Sarah is on fire!” I just love your reactions! The balance of technical points and Haikyu fandom is just perfect! Time flies when I watch your videos...🦅 You need to add more space to your love house! There’s still so many more to come!🥰 Best of luck in the Olympic Games! I'll be rooting for you!

Get used to the chills! There will be a lot more moments like that in the future. Loved the reaction as always!

It's actually very, very common in Japan to give a nickname to people and use that instead of their real name. I have some pretty close Japanese friends whose real names I'm not sure I've heard anyone actually say aloud. You can actually see that in how Hinata calls people like Oikawa "Dai-Ousama" (Great King), or Kindaichi "Rakkyou-heddo" (Onion-head), or how Coach Ukai calls Kenma "Purin-atama" (Pudding head). So, if you wanna just go with "no eye-brows," that'd be, if anything, more authentic.

I knew she gonna get deep into this show at the end of episode 3 when she almost cried at Hinata finally getting his set.

I was feeling blue today and thought "ahh, it would be awesome if Sarah were to upload another reaction today.. oh, but it's almost the Olympics so probably not.. it's alright though" then i saw the notification that you uploaded another Haikyuu reaction video and I was so happy!!!

It's only 2 weeks before first Olympic matches 😱 I honestly wasn't expecting new videos at this point, you're too kind to us, Sarah! I think about investing in a big-ass Canadian flag, since I'll also need it for Beijing next year (not that anyone will see it, but it's about the _energy_ haha) This episode was so good! And your reaction at the end is absolutely relatable, a few minutes to gather yourself are needed sometimes with this show. I know it's still miles away, but I'm very excited for you to meet another interesting blocker and hear your thoughts about him. Thank you so much, Sarah! ❤

I'm getting more emotional watching the show with your reactions than I did when I watched Haikyuu for the first time lmao

I absolutely loved your insights and explanation on blocking! Your explanations are so good and easy to follow. I was cracking up towards the end where you had your analysis of who would be your Haikyuu twin lolol he is indeed a great and fearsome blocker (and a gentle giant)! Your pronunciations are all fantastic imo too!

It's so fun seeing you get pissed at Oikawa because I feel like he is such a polarizing character for the fandom. It is always either you love him or you don't. I'm excited to see how you react with the Seijoh team!

Asahi and Nishinoya's practice match was when Haikyuu first clicked for me, and this match was when the series solidified itself as one of my favorite series period
