I remember watching these scenes when I was 14 years old, nearly the same age as Rosie. At the time I was on Rosie's side but now being 30, I can really see Sally's perspective. Who wouldn't want their child to take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way? Sally was living vicariously through Rosie too much, but I can understand it. Kids often don't want to do what's best for themselves for various reasons and it's a fine line between being a stage or tiger parent, and encouraging and insisting on children meeting certain expectations. I work with children, but I am not a parent. If I was though, I would be fairly ambitious for them and wouldn't let them slack because I know how important it is. Forcing kids into stage school isn't the way though. I am not convinced Rosie didn't want it though....I think she wanted to be "normal" and do what everyone else is doing...but as an adult I know that is juvenile and immature and a lot of kids would be resentful later if their parents let them do whatever they wanted rather than work toward a better future. Even if the kid doesn't think so when they are 13 or 14.

Not that I am some big Sally fan. She is a horrible snob whereas I am very egalitarian leaning.

Rosie grew up to be a vapid airhead who now lives in Tokyo. At this point in time yes she did want to be 'normal' every time she tried to sit down to do homework, Sally was there telling her how unimportant her schoolwork was and pushing her to do things related to being 'a star'. Sally poured all of her time and effort into moulding Rosie, she completely ignored/forgot about Sophie. She only really began noticing Sophie, when Sophie's sexual orientation came into play and Sophie became a lesbian. Then she spent quite a while trying to make Sophie straight

I was forced to do auditions i hated it, it wasn’t what i wanted i did drama, tap, ballet never had a free evening, i used to come out of school tired when i was 10/11 and my mum would be waiting saying i had a private lesson, i just wanted to go home. I didnt want to be a dancer or do drama……..i let my daughter try things and if she didnt like it, that was it
