I think it was because she never really had a proper relationship with him, it was more experimental teenager things, so she was more bothered about bethany.

@@sophietandy8726 At age 12 Sarah had sex with Neil Fern's. She was not raped, though she young, nieve girl at the time. Her mother, Gail Platt, made the decision to not have Neil be involved when his father came to talk. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hILHiq2oeMx3iZY). June 2000 Bethany platt was born, she grew up not knowing her father as he died in September 2003.

It was a pre-teen fumble at somebody's party probably. She herself admitted she didn't like him that and he wasn't too keen on being a dad (who would be at 12?) There was no attachment on either side.
