Like I said, video still demonstrates the game well. I just played my 4th American Revolution GMT game in the past 30 days and we're still missing a small rule here and there. It's a streamlined system, but with a rulebook that doesn't mind not spelling everything out. I wouldn't worry about re-doing. There were a few other bits, I just can't remember them now....nothing game breaking. Love the series.

Another great Job! I have been to Saratoga and it is a great battlefield!

Yes it is. I have been travelling there since 1974 and have walked the field numerous time. Always discovering something new.

Hey Ryan, could you point out the rules errors? Keep in mind that this is an edited video and not shot 'live in real time". So stuff off camera might have been corrected. But it would be interesting and instructive to see what I was doing wrong.

Quite right Ryan. I checked and it is rule 3.6.1. This really should have been placed right beside rule 3.5.2. This way the player could connect the two events in his mind. If I did roll for initiative on turn 3, that is an error. Might want to redo this video at some time. Trouble is when a video is placed on You Tube, I'm not quite sure on how to get it off.

Another great video, just got the tri pack off eBay so looking forward to playing this battle. I would be interested, you being a historian and gamer, your thoughts on volumes 9 and 10 in this series. The hypothetical Battle of Newport in volume 9 was quite fun. And the hypothetical grand scenario in volume ten at White Plains was fun too but I cant imagine making it through all forty plus turns without one side or the others morale failing. I made it to turn 14.

Thank you Michael. I purchased 'Saratoga' when it first came out and really liked it. I continued purchasing the volumes until about Volume 9. I wasn't too interested in 'Newport's' hypothetical scenario but anticipated 'White Plains' which I wish had been released years before. Since then I have become the developer of Ken Repel's new games on the Revolution and prefer them to this series. I have since abandoned all of the titles in the GMT series and when they are released, continue with Ken's. I think they are better 'simulations' than Marks'. Marks series is unquestionably very popular and continues to be so but I'm not happy with the way they play. They don't seem to reflect tactics of the Revolutionary War very well. Presently though, I doubt if we would see Ken's game come out from Compass until 2025. Again, thanks for the comments.

Great vid, but did see lots of rule problems. Doesn't take away from the video, but should be noted for others who are confused.

What do you think of Turning Point's new "Saratoga"?
@ryanking3210 жыл бұрын
Sure Gilbert. One big thing I found confusing was you took american units off of their garrison positions. You have to have 1 non arty unit there or you lose points. Also, american forces have auto initiative on turn 3, I think you rolled for it. Let me know if any of this is incorrect.

Great job on video! Too bad you didn’t actually show some combat resolutions, so the mechanics could be shown.

Very late comment here I know (apologies), but I agree with what you posted. For those of us who are brand new to hex and tile wargames or board wargames in general, this is something that is missing from the majority of KZbin videos. The videos all seem to follow a general pattern, here's the box, here's the map, here's the rule book, here's the counters, here's the very general/basic idea of the game, and here's my recommendation (or non-recommendation). Rarely do the videos go into any detail about how to actually play the game. Many of these games are very confusing for the newcomer/rookie and the frustration level can run high. I wonder what percentage of people who are interested in picking this hobby up never get past the opening of the box because they simply can't grasp the mechanics? I bet its pretty high. It would be nice to see a more detailed walk-through of how the turns actually are played out. I did enjoy the video very much. So well done Gilbert. I just wish there was a bit more meat. I just bought this game...my first...and I am trying to work my way through it. Happy gaming all!

I don't own the game but I did see it down at WBC last summer. I loved the box cover artwork but was not impressed with the game. Frankly, the board is just too small. I don't feel it can simulate the battle very well on that scale. I think it looks like a nice simple introductory game to the subject.
