Sarawak has many ethnic groups. In the good old days, rice farming was a survival enterprise. Almost all celebrate the harvest with dance, food and drinks. In order to assist the natives, the Sarawak government fixed June 1st. as Gawai day for all involved. The celebration will go in for weeks and end with 'Ngiling Tikai', literally means to fold the mat, meaning the end of the celebration. When they welcome you to the traditional long house, a sign of respect is to roll a mat for you to sit down. The natives , though their living style has been influenced by financial progress, still adhere to their traditions and cultures.
The tradition goes on and is well documented for future generations.#pmpm444841 #kuching #sarawak #Sarawak tourism
