After seeing all of Ikuhara’s shows i feel he directs animation the way in a particular way that reminds me of writers of literature from past centuries that usually have a recurring set of themes and imagery all over their work. In a way I feel like I’m reading a book when i’m watching his shows, it’s an enriching experience to say the least and he’s probably my favorite anime director even if he’s work has flaws... Watching his shows is something special and i really love seeing people who take interest i his work to the extent of looking into symbolism because it brings new perspectives into how to read his work. I love your SU-Utena analysis too and I hope to see more analysis of Ikuhara’s work from you in the future!

Thanks for making this. I've been a fan of Ikuhara because no matter how many times I watch his works I always find something new. You pointing out the connection between Lulu and Otone blew me once again on how amazing of a director Ikuhara is.

Your voice sounds oddly sped up in this video. Do my ears not work correctly, or is there a reason for this? Otherwise, great video! It's nice to see something new, especially when it's about something you're clearly so passionate about. ^^
@optimisticDuelist5 жыл бұрын
Nah, you're correct! I've been frustrated for a while with feeling like my voice drags out in a way that doesn't "Flow" right to my own ears. I decided to say screw it and start lightly experimenting with speeding the audio. I might've overdone it with this one, honestly? But hopefully it still reads well.

Phenomenal video! I'm currently writing a panel about Ikuhara and this video is giving me motivation to keep working on it haha. You really eloquently described part of what I love about his works so much. Thanks for your work on this!

I've only heard about one of these shows and I don't know if I'm ever gonna get the energy to watch them, but it's really neat when you make videos not about homestuck, but other things you really enjoy. One of the things I always appreciate and enjoy about your videos is the genuine love for the thing you're talking about. Any video you make is awesome just because you love the subject so much. :)

Your analysis is amazing! I love it how carefully but fully cover not just those parallels you see but the meaning behind them.

ive watched all of these shows with the exception of utena, but only now after seeing your video i noticed that the stylistic and plot similarities could be interpreted as connections between all of them. this idea that theyre all connected makes so much sense seeing all of them have elements of parallel universes and second chances at life! not to mention they all follow the same sort of plot structure, leaving a lot of very important elements to be revealed towards the end! this is a really interesting observation which i completely agree with. i am so looking forward to more of these videos!! :0 p.s. the fact that jinnai and lulu's brother both have a strong connection to boxes also suggests to me that they might be the same person! (never noticed that till now watching your video!)

I didn't totally understand all of that, but it seemed super interesting! I would love to see you make more videos like this, I always love people talking about things they love. However, I do think the talking is a bit fast, and makes it somewhat more difficult to understand than it needs to be. If you do decide to keep your voice sped up though, I think it would probably sound a bit better if you didn't correct for pitch-shifting (if you speed up audio, it compresses the waveforms, naturally increasing the pitch), meaning that you should have your voice slightly pitched up (look a Extra Credits when Dan Floyd narrated)
