Ulanzi J12 Wireless Microphone Lavalier System for iPhone Review: Best Value Ever?

I’m heading to Japan in August and that got me thinking about what should be in my camera bag. Specifically, I got to thinking about a Wireless Microphone Lavalier System. I bought A Wireless Rode Go mic, a few years ago, but you know what, I barely use them. And that’s because I do most of my recording for audio on videos using my iPhone, and you have to use a connector cable, and it’s always kind of awkward. So the Rode Go is a wireless kit, but not when it comes to hooking up to an Phone - or any camera for that matter. I thought the DJI Mic kit, and that’s really good but it’s still pretty expensive.
So, that got me thinking about finding an alternative wireless mic that did the job with an iPhone but still wasn’t horribly expensive - and that’s when I came across the Ulanzi J12 kit.
Now, I’ve always found Ulanzi to be good value for money and have never really let me down with other small accessories I have from them, like tripods. So, when I found this wireless lapel mic kit, I definitely gave it a second look as it seemed like just the thing I needed.
Let me run down the kit contents, the build quality, connectivity, transmission range, some demo audio in the various modes including noise reduction, what I liked and didn’t like, and my conclusion.

I like the sound quality as an upgrade compared to the iPhone and the wireless Go. I think that if you plan to use the phone for a while the lightening connector is great. I will be adding this to use with both my iPhone SE 2016 and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

This does sound okay… but compared to some of the similar priced options with pop filters on, that wind is really bad. Same with the “P”s just while talking. I’d definitely find some sort of wind filter work around as that’s almost unusable outside.

Yes - for that reason, I’d use ther Fulaim X5 which I’ve recently reviewed - different price point through, though much cheaper that Rode and definitely more affordable that DJI mic

I haven't got round to testing that I'm afraid. Nothing I rig stays in place very well / is very practical to re-use.

I’m sorry - I’m not sure. I no longer have this mic. As far as I can recall it worked with the native app but it was pretty quiet.

The Ulanizi far from a good and at 04:51 the sound here seems worse than with noise reduction (and in your hand is better:-)). Question do you wanna spend money just for something because cheap? And how record the two mic sound, left and right or mixed?

@@TheTechPacker Yes, indeed. But how many tools we have that are almost as good, but still not, and then they sit on the shelf:-). The question is, how do you record the microphone sounds on a separate track, because if you can't, it's unsuitable for "serious" work. The documentation doesn't say anything, but I have heard sounds recorded with this pair of mics and they are pass-through and phased.
