I brought this seaweed home from the gulf of Mexico in Texas. Put a good amount on one blackberry plant and it grew twice the size as the rest of my berry plants. Getting a bunch this year for all my gardens. Works.

That would be an awesome retirement gig. Small compact tractor and a couple acres to work on and you could be making black gold! Potting soil, compost to amend soil, or straight up gardening soil. Great hummus to work with.

Built in pest control. It’s true sargassum store’s heavy metals and arsenic which then leaches into the soil and can be absorbed by plants. Normal seaweed is ok people where I live eat kelp quite healthy

I don’t mean to be a downer here but, this material contains heavy metals which could contaminate groundwater. I’ll pass on the investment opportunity.

As a massive amount of sargassum swamps the Caribbean and southern coastlines of the US today why is nobody talking about this brilliant idea? This is a huge opportunity for thousands of people.

I just heard about this problem coming back, in a greater extent. I also hear that the EU has it's headquarters in Barbados and have alot of money just waiting for any good idea/project to take action. I wonder how will Mr. Cavendish products be used as fertilizers, should it be mixed with the soil? Can be used as a replacement for soil? Is there any way of analyzing the nutrition in this?

Question for Mr. Atwell: this sea weed washes upon our shores and beaches too. How can you get ride of the salt in the weed during the process.? I try to grow veggies on our island too, Im from the Dutch Antilles.

That's the first thing I thought of is fertilizer, and also fuel when the sea weed is still fresh, cook it down and render it into Bio liquid fuel ⛽!!!.

Good idea…BUT WAIT!! Removing too much from the sea can be a problem for the ecosystem down the road, because this is part of a cycle and is important to know all steps in it and to explte it in a sustainable way!!!
@dustywilson54619 жыл бұрын
OrganicWellnessNews1 Good point, but there can be a few simple regulations set in place to secure a reasonable amount of seaweed left for the ecosystem. Not difficult.
@thebgis9 жыл бұрын
Dusty Wilson Do you have any suggestions? Please post.
@drdanj9 жыл бұрын
OrganicWellnessNews1 You seem unaware of the drastic problem that has emerged in the Eastern Caribbean. Sargasssum has become a horribly invasive species that has spread across the entire region. has taken over entire harbo, such as Clifton on Union Island. Flying over the region, these massive weed beds are spreading for miles, a totally new phenomenon.
@davonbaker25309 жыл бұрын
OrganicWellnessNews1 Odd! Has not the ecosystem been doing fine without it all these years? Isn't "invasive" a possibility?
@drdanj9 жыл бұрын
Harvesting was a nice idea when the scale of the problem was small. But I spent two weeks sailing the Windwards, Martinique to Grenada. It is a massive problem, beyond anything seen in memory. Yes, climate change is happening. It is choking many of the islands.
