Some bands are so underrated. I'm from Belgium and this band barely has any playtime on national radio, while this is a class apart. "Epic" doesn't even cover the load to describe them, especially this song. But then again: it's no mainstream b*llshit the radiowaves are polluted with the last years. We like are idols...adore them, our Justin B.'s, Cardi B.'s, the oh-so popular foulmouthing rapper scene, ... and in the meanwhile we forget what good music actually is. Thank you, Brutus and (yes: many) others to make us remember what music is all about.

The reason why this song works so unbelievably well is because you can both see and hear Stefanie's emotional attachment to the meaning.. it is clearly both painful and cathartic for her and thus, it's both harrowing and stunningly beautiful for the listener. The sheer power of her vocal delivery, along with its beauty and her ability to convey the feel of the song is the reason why I will come back again and again to this song. All the while, she is carrying the song in a rhythmic sense as well.. fucking remarkable. 4 years ago I stumbled on this video by accident. I was immediately intrigued. But honestly I wasn't initially smitten. There was something though. A vibe. An atmosphere. A lot of heart. It was hard to explain or put into words, but it was very clear to me that this was special. So I kept listening to "Nest" and "Burst". Over and over again on repeat for several weeks. With each listen I was sucked further and further into the amazing soundscape and blend of genres of Brutus' music. Fast forward 4 years. Now they've released their third album which in my opinion is their best one yet, and I genuinely think it's the best rock record to be released in a long long time. I just got to see them live for the first time in march, and it was absolutely amazing. I'm now 33 years old. I so rarely discover new music at my age that even comes close to having a shot of becoming a regular played artist in my daily listening. But Brutus have managed not only that, but they might actually have taken the place as my favorite band. I stopped calling things "favorite" a long time ago, as my favorite this or favorite that is usually just a swirling mixture of adolescent feelings, memories and nostalgia. Brutus, however, might just be my new actual favourite band. They're just that good.
