It might be a weird flex but I find this album to be one of the best music to go with a reading session of berserk. Hope this reaches all my suffering fellow readers

WOW! It's been a while since I've took the time to listen to an instrumental album. I accidentally came across this earlier, and boy am I glad I did. One of the best non vocal albums I've heard in a very long time!!

It took about 3-4 listens, but this is slowly sinking in, and I think they finally nailed their sound; the previous two albums were ventures into a different realm than the first releases - these were the records that got me on board with ASIWYFA. It's quite obvious that no ambitious band wants to stay in the same place forever, so - despite not being especially enthusiastic about AHBF and Heirs - I totally understood the somewhat left-field move. But I'm no doubt glad they came back to this sort of sound; mixed with the experience gained during the last album's exploration, I think it creates a more mature version of the band. Still rhythmically captivating, at times savage, but also upbeat and cheerful. Love it.
@hakametal6 жыл бұрын
Respect your opionion, but how on earth don't you love AHBF?? That album is a masterpiece!
@iakusz6 жыл бұрын
Dunno man. Maybe I haven't given it enough listens. Just didn't speak to me. It's not that I don't like cheerful music - quite the contrary. But there was something off about the high-pitched sounds there.
@sammyhi1236 жыл бұрын
Oh, I agree with this so much, I liked the last two - but their first albums are absolutely some of my favorite albums of all time.
@sammyhi1236 жыл бұрын
So glad they have somewhat gone back to their roots
@acrylic-or-dye44285 жыл бұрын
I understand what you're saying, but without the cheerfulness found in an album like Heirs, this comes off (to me at least) sounding like generic post-rock. Probably not a big deal when the band started out, but now this is a very crowded field.

The opening track to this album has to be one of the most amazing things I've had the pleasure of hearing in 2017 (...and that in itself is saying a LOT). If the opener, Three Triangles, isn't eventually in some epic movie scene where the main hero literally snaps and goes from good to evil/rogue/psycho/vigilante (Star Wars, Mad Max, etc. type situations) then they're missing a golden opportunity. Also, major props to Sargent House so far in 2017: Tera Melos - Trash Generator, Blis. - No One Loves You, and ASIWYFA - The Endless Shimmering. How does it feel knowing you have the math rock, post-hardcore, and post-rock albums of the year?

I was excited when they were teasing the new songs, but overall I'm in two with this album. They seem to have revert back to the darker, noodling feel of some songs in the first 2 albums, only with bigger, better production values. I actually loved where they were going with the last 2 albums after Wright had left - they were brighter, more melodious, and felt more inspiring.
