Commutation is not permissible for 50% of pension. You can cummute only up to maximum of 40% of your pension.

Don't commute pension. This is loss to the pensioner since one cannot get full pension till the end of 15 years. Nearly 80 to 90 percent in excess will be recovered than what we have commuted.

The difference is commuting i.e. additional amount which should yield more than reduction in pension else it will be burden especially for Group B officers who will fall into least tax bracket or even on edge after retirement with new increased tax slab. Wouldn't it better The difference to be invested in SIP or elsewhere?

Sir don't avail your EL's as it will result to waste of money and time. Once you avail it your family would likely to expect, you will take on some vacation some place, eventually you would be spending money there too. It's better too work off day n night, making your boss proud and happy, be the black horse, you & your boss always wanted you to be. Leave encashment sounds like a mature option, you get paid for your own earned leaves according to basic salary structure not according to your in-hand salary (charity begins at home, oops office). You can enjoy your life and meet all your responsibilities like family and relatives on weekoff (sat &sun). CL's could be used for long quality time with family and friends.

Good perspective, however the fact is maximum 40% of pension may be commuted and by no calculation it will be 1 to 1.25 crore. Even at basic pay of Rs. 2 lakh pension will be 1lakh and commuted value at 40 % , commuted amount for a person retiring at 60 years will be about 40lakhs.
