Seeing and hearing everything from these pilots to the radio to the plane's instruments was awesome. You learn so much about what they do and how they do it. I love how this Captain shows us and goes into great detail while going over things. Cloudy, but still an amazing view outside these windows. Awesome landing that sounds amazing by these great pilots. I love the A330's; it's an amazing and beautiful aircraft. I love seeing other planes while taxing as well. Awesome video; I love it.

One very strange thing about flying into Hong Kong is that you pass over Macau at about 30,000 ft. I remember one flight looking out of the window when I came back from the toilet and seeing Macau below, yet the seatbelt signs hadn´t even been switched on yet. The planes all fly about 40nm south over the sea and then back north while they descend rather than descending and turning left at Macau.

It seems confusing (to me) to get altitude directions in both meters and feet. In a crisis situation, it would seem a potential source of error.
@CMBelite-FR3 жыл бұрын
where did you heard that ? I think China use the metric system but Hong Kong the imperial metric so i wouldn't be surprised that when switching from the chinese to HK airspace, you switch from meters to feets
@matt1544zxc33 жыл бұрын
@@CMBelite-FR I'd have to go back and listen to it again, but I think they got FL39, FL37, then some in meters, then again in feet after that.
@sunnyyan10803 жыл бұрын
@@matt1544zxc3 I believe China is the only country left using metres for altitude. All other countries use feet. While over Serbia, they got FL370/390, switched to metres over China, and then Guangzhou gave them FL230 just before transferring them to Hong Kong.

Canada started using kilograms recently when they bought a new A380. They had a problem running out of fuel because of wrong conversion formula used by engineers. It can be a worrisome mistake waiting to happen. Most fuel is in tons.

@arturo4683 жыл бұрын
I am a retired airline pilot and I can tell you that, whilst this clip may seem attractive to wannabe pilots, in reality, the life of a long haul pilot has numerous disadvantages. You need to find out what these are, before you spend a fortune on training………
@cyberscot42113 жыл бұрын
Ever so true; thanks for raising this important point. There's an endless tendency, in comments, to talk-up flight. The wannabes ignore the darkside of flying, they think they can be a pilot overnight. Professional pilots all went to university, a high educational standard is required - and a load of money. However, they should try their best to achieve their dream - but it won't be easy 😧
@Username-ww2cd3 жыл бұрын
@@cyberscot4211 Most pilots being hired by airlines now don't have degrees. And I think most serious future pilots do understand what it will take - we know it won't be easy. And I've spoken to lots of pilots and their passion usually conquers the drawbacks - plus it's a varied industry so there are lots of different types of pilots depending on your circumstances.

Does anyone actually fly an airplane now,, as opposed to diddling with toy computers ???
@cyberscot42113 жыл бұрын
Well yes they do, it still requires a load of skill. "Toy computers" ... more like high-end expensive ones. The days of the begoggled old-school pilots, with Wagner's "Flight of the Valkyries" metaphorically playing in the background, are gone 🛩️
@Username-ww2cd3 жыл бұрын
Of course. You pulll the stick back, you go up. Forwards, down. Left, you go left. Right, you go right. Whilst there are more tech aids during the flight, pilots still handfly takeoffs and majority of landings as they always have.

Why does the Cpt say “blue” after the altitude?
@tenvelli3 жыл бұрын
Blue means set
@kata72183 жыл бұрын
Blue means armed or selected on Airbus and the aircraft will capture the selected altitude or flight level when reached. Only time when the selected altitude will be other than blue, will be on newer Airbuses when you select the go around altitude, that will be white and turn blue after you peform a go around.

Lotta chatter on final approach. Unusual and unnecessary. Didn't hear minimums.
@Gilles453 жыл бұрын
The minimums call can clearly be heard at 54:30, right after the "100 above" callout at 54:20, which means 100 feet above minimums, and the captain responds with "land". The "chatter" is ATC talking with other planes, which is neither unusual nor unnecessary. Hong Kong is a very busy airspace and the SAS plane is not the only aircraft in the sky.
