I love this tutorial! The instruction is so explicit and inspiring, and I do gain some practical skills of SAS Viya even if I do not have any experience working with it before.

Thank you for posting this, SAS! I have always wanted to learn more about SAS Viya, but I don't quite have the time to pick up your book and read about it. The instructor explained the basics very clearly, and I was able to grasp the contents over the course of the video! Could she make a video on SAS Visual Analytics and SAS RWE platform? As an epidemiologist, I make and present graphs and plots everyday, and I would really appreciate guided videos and instructions. Do you have an instructor specific youtube channel?

thank you so much Vidhya for your feedback. I will certainly look to posting videos on visualization as per your request. Meanwhile, have you checked out Robert Allison, the SAS graph guy, blogs.sas.com/content/author/robertallison/

Concerning the last 2 examples, clearly CAS environment took longer time than the BASE SAS STEP with SORT. I think running time matters a lot. But it's good to know no SORT needed in CAS.

Thank you for this amazing tutorial. I have some questions though. 1. Does it matter which one is the active caslib If I choose to load a table and specify OUTCASLIB= option with another caslib (not the active one). What does it mean for a caslib to have a local or global scope? I get it for tables if they are promoted or not.

Thanks for your question! KZbin feedback area is not set up so we can post code, screen shots or lengthy explanations. You might benefit from reading the companion paper for this video, which you'll find here: 2.sas.com/6054JwAGm. Also, you may want to investigate our Programming with SAS Viya class, described here: 2.sas.com/6055JwAGW and our new class on the CASL language, here: 2.sas.com/6056JwAGo. For questions about the scope in relation to a CASLIB, the main thing to remember is that session scope or local scope tables can only be seen by a single CAS session and are dropped from CAS when that session is terminated. However, global scope tables can be seen publicly and will not be dropped when the CAS session is terminated. Consult the documentation, here: 2.sas.com/6057JwAGU, which has a very nice graphic that shows the main differences.

From the Step 1: %let path=/pathname (what if your pathname is a DFS folder? is this possible?)

SAS Viya is running on Linux (usually in the cloud), so a Windows path like \\server\path would need to be mounted as a network share that you can access from there with a Unix-style path.

@@myversion4184 The Compute Server startup could be configured to connect the specific folder for each user (as Compute Server is launched with user identity). The Group folder would then be a common folder also shared.
