I watched Dame Shirley Bassey’s old Videos from previous Performances all over the World, I never get, tired. Even in my sleep, her mystical voice stays with me, so powerful like feeling in love again and again ( I am a 66 years old , Grandmother of Two and been married X 41 years now). So much better than the 1976 performance on her BBC TV show - more controlled, mature and just beautiful although she NEVER quite got the phrase "i've had every accolade bestowed on me, and so you see" right. Even the original studio recording wasn't right musically.

fooman65 like I said in my original comment, I felt that 1979 was a more mature interpretation and more controlled. Probably because by then she had 3 years of performing the number behind her so it was more reflective perhaps? Personally, I find some of the open vowel sounds from the earlier version quite harsh and unmusical - the words 'another', 'bother' and 'song' are more rounded and warmer here and less shouty. Also, I have never been a fan of Shirley singing with a handheld microphone because it is like making her sing with one arm tied behind her back and it lacks the drama that her physical performance gives this version. Maybe it's the gown and the camera angles or the lack of the hand held microphone but this version has a touch of Norma Desmond about it and I think it works with the lyrics.
