I guess for the sake of the video it's just easier to show a knot in the front. Also it's just easier to do that when you have to do it by yourself. I don't think she purposely chose the 'wrong' knot. I love that you know how to do all that, it looks like a lot of work! Thank you for showing us!

Yes I know. I am European and for us it's easy to say both are the same too. I didn't deny for one second that it might be oiran instead of geisha (I'm not Japanese after all). I'm just saying it's probably just easier to tie the knot in the front when you're by yourself.

I'm hoping a lot of the people commenting on geisha aren't using "Memoirs of a Geisha" as their sole point of reference. Fiction often uses a lot of artistic license. In any case, the makeup and the kimono looks awesome! I don't know how she can do her hair that elaborately all on her own. I can barely do a neat-looking braid LOL

In the Edo period, it was common to tie the obi in the front. Like Tayu or Oiran. :) Maybe she's trying to look more like them? Either way, it's very pretty. :)

I've read Memoirs of a Geisha (and i think it's amazing as well as reliable) and I also read other articles and did many researches. I've wrote my previous statements after reading and learning a lot about it and after reading a lot of stuff I can say a geisha is not a prostitute!
