I’ve had this stuck in my head on and off since I first listened to it a few years ago. For my life, I couldn’t remember anything except the drinking line and that yielded no results on Google. So finally, I combed through my heartbreak playlist and found it. I should be sleeping, but I don’t care. This is beautiful.

The subtle references to having an affair are so soft and well crafted. Makes me embody the character that is fighting their own urges towards infidelity, they have to soften the language to make it look like something less troublesome. At the same time they feel the love that this entails, but it's a cold sort of love. Amazing composition and lyrics.

Something tells me this is my new favorite artist on the rise. The simple poetry of all these advanced elements. Let this moment be marked forever.

[Verse 1: SASAMI] I'm sure this happens all the time I know I’m not the only one I'm sure this happens all the time There's nothing wrong when we both play along [Verse 2: SASAMI, SASAMI & Devendra Banhart] You say you’re older so you know That it's no fun to be alone You say you're older so you know There's nothing wrong with a half-finished song [Chorus: SASAMI, SASAMI & Devendra Banhart] I don't know what you're thinking We both know what you're drinking And my smokes are running out I don't care what tomorrow brings Dreaming of some awful things ‘Cause our time is running out And you don’t know And you don’t know what you mean to me [Verse 2: SASAMI, SASAMI & Devendra Banhart] You've got a good thing back at home And so it changes as you’ve grown You've got a lovely thing at home So why confuse when you might lose it all? [Verse 4: SASAMI, SASAMI & Devendra Banhart] We walked as far as we could go The city held us as its own We walked as far as we could go We had to choose, so we took off our shoes [Chorus: SASAMI, SASAMI & Devendra Banhart] I don't know what you're thinking We both know what I’m drinking And my smokes are running out I don't care what tomorrow brings Dreaming of some awful things ‘Cause our time is running out And you don't know And you don't know And you don't know And you don't know what it means to be free
