Had a lot of fun making this track, the gigs were fantastic, as a jobbing musician/songwriter I shat myself the first time the audience sang the song back to me. I found out while making this song how good a pianist Sasha was, I knew him as a DJ and hadn’t realised he could play as well as mix which explained how he was able to mix songs while maintaining the key and the groove. A very talented bloke. Fun fact, when we did together Sasha still had long hair from his Hacienda days. Tom Frederikse is co writer and co producer as well as mix engineer, he and Sasha pulled a few all nighters on this track.

Tune. I've read an interview with Sasha in Dom Wilson's book, he says he wasn't really satisfied with his first singles on Decon. I think this is quality for '93, you can tell he was trying to make big vocal prog anthems. This one hits the mark in my book. Great vocals by Danny Campbell. Sam Mollison was a great vocalist who worked with Sasha then too.

Thanks for the compliment Lucas, you are right, Sasha was working with Tom Frederikse who is a life long friend, they were remixing big vocal tunes, they got me in to beef up the backing vocals on ‘Someday by M People’ the session went so well we sat down & wrote ‘together’. One moment I’m in Matrix studio’s the next, on stage in Florida performing the track in the middle of Sasha’s set. I also did the male vocals on ‘Be as one - Sasha & Maria’, we did that song on TOTP, the version on release is the 2nd version, we recorded it on an early digital recording format Sahsha had, we ended up deleting all the vocals at the end of the session, so had to start again at around 2am, for expediency the 2nd time of recording we simply put two mic’s in the booth, stood face to face & performed the song as if live. That’s the version released & makes me smile remembering the look on Sasha’s face when we eventually listened back to the final recording.

@@grahamharris8906 Thanks Graham, I appreciate your kind words. I am now semi retired since 'Lockdown'. I am still mates with Sasha, we had a crazy 10 days in Orlando a few years back which I will never forget but haven't seen him for a while, I was signed to Sony/ATV & went on to write with Dido & loads of other artists spending a lot of time on the road in both Europe & America, I even did Eurovision for Germany in 2001 as lead vocalist in a German band (the money was most generous & I was a jobbing muso with a wife & 2 kids). I spent several years as Tom Jones' choir master (the guy is a workaholic & party animal, I love him). I took a break after Tom and became area manager of a pub company owned by a mate with bars in the City & Borough Market, London which was the best fun you can have outside of the music business. At the moment I have a beautiful studio where I do projects for young artists that I like. My wife & I have been together for 41yrs now & our children are grown men who both play (which is great). I spend most of my time in the studio writing or mixing, I do have a shed/workshop where I like to mess about with wood but my main love is still music based. Most recently I appeared in a Canadian documentary about my Dad 'Ambrose' who was also a musician & I was interviewed for a book about his life long freind Leon Russell the American song writer. @@dannycampbell6223 I did send a message back Danny but it hasn’t showed up ! I’m glad that your still involved with music and sounds like your life has been an interesting one . I got to know Sasha from just following him as he was playing the progressive stuff me and my best pal Carl . We used to go to a club in Stoke called Freetown which I still think was the best undiscovered club . On KZbin there is a set Sasha at Freetown 91 . We used to say I wonder what Danny looks like as we just couldn’t or get or seen a picture . We imagined you in a suit as smooth as your vocal ( I’m not being cheesy ! Just true ) we then got to meet Sasha to talk to at the chuff chuffs as we were plays with the Ryan’s ! and Carl was DJing for moneypennies .. I even named my dog after him and told him at chuff chuff 😂he was grabbing a couple pals and telling them . He said I’m touched ! I’ve never had that before . Class days Danny and I’m still into my dance now at 52 ! Ere off to see gus gus in Berlin end of the year .. your other tracks ‘answer my prayer and the brilliant ‘ make it real ‘ chuffed you’ve text me Danny ! When we all meet up and have a blast out ! Your always in a mix along the way . When I drop together !
