Very helpful! And a wonderful thing to watch and listen to while I repair a beloved shirt.

Thank you for sharing this. I have just ordered the thimble for sashiko stitching, since I want to learn how to do it with the proper posture, and it comes with a wa-sai thimble as well. I really enjoyed learning the differences between these two kinds of unshin and their different purposes. Once again, thank you for sharing not only the visual beauty of sashiko, but also the rich culture that is interwoven in it. This makes it even more beautiful, in my eyes.

Wow. I am definitely never stitching in public! Watching you makes me know how awful my technique is. You are so fast and your stitches so small. Amazing.

Please do stitch in public!! I am not sharing videos to discourate stitchers. It is just that I have little more experience... but, I want you to learn what Sashiko really is for the Japanese (if you would try & call your stitching Sashiko). Enjoy!

I learned to do running stitch for hand sewing clothing similar to wasai so seeing the difference between wasai and sashiko was very helpful.

The wasai movement is very similar to fabric manipulation in hand quilting.

Thank you for the 2 styles! I was thinking that those with arthritis or thumb and hand ailments that they will stitch the way they are able. I cut my left thumb a week ago near the top and under nail..I thought ..back when Sashiko started, the underprivileged and others probably also had hand problems and adjusted their stitching practices to accommodate their injury..as u say, sometimes there r too many rules (that can't be applied lol)Happy New Year and looking forward to mire!
