A quicker method for solving certain systems that appear on the SAT, where the question is asking for a sum of the solutions rather than the individual solutions themselves. This method is valid for answering questions like "what is the value of x+y" but NOT for those along the lines of "what is the value of x-y", unless the problem is very particularly set up to yield that expression when adding the equations (or perhaps subtracting them). As usual, all the methods of solving equations are valid; just note that sometimes on the no-calculator section it is not intended for you to spend all that time doing the associated arithmetic. Try a trick like this instead!
