Satanta's Last Flight | Kiowa

Kiowa Chief Satanta - known as the great orator - was an influential leader of his people and participant in both battles of Adobe Walls. Arrested by Custer. Very close to killing General Sherman. Eventually tried for murder - found guilty - and sentenced to prison, Satanta allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the 2nd floor of a Huntsville Penitentiary Hospital. Satanta is my 3rd Great Grandfather. Thank you for mentioning that many of his descendants don't believe he committed suicide. I don't believe he would give up the fight! He did not want his people to be forced onto reservations. His Grandson died a year before I was born in 1973. So yes his great grandchildren are still living😊 Because of him and my other Ancestors some of them also Kiowa War Chiefs I exist. 🙏🪶 Thank you Spirit!

I'm also a descendent of Satanta. Some of the other Kiowa War Chiefs as well. Many Kiowas are related due to families marrying into other families

Interesting sidenote on the supply wagons Satanta massacred, it was the freighting company started by the free black man Britt Johnson who was present and killed after being overwhelmed by the Kiowa. Britt Johnson was famous prior because his family was abducted by Kiowa and Comanche years early during the Elm Creek raid. His son was killed in the raid but his wife and two daughters were taken captive by the Kiowa along with others. Britt then proceeded to track down his family and eventually freeing them and the other captives making him a hero to his fellow Texans. The story of Britt might sound familiar since it was the basis of John Ford's classic film "The Searchers" but Johnson is replaced by a white man played by John Wayne in probably his best performance. Later they made two made for TV movies called "Black Fox" but in typical Hollywood fashion they distorted the actual events to fit a narrative... in the movie none of Britt's family is killed while he befriends a Kiowa when it actuality it was a Comanche who helped him get access to the families taken captive

Thank you, I really enjoyed the story telling and especially the time line. I knew my Great Grandfather who knew his Grandfather who told him stories about when Neapolitan ruled where he lived; I will tell my great grandson who will hear those stories only two people removed from the original teller. He could live well into the 22nd century and tell those same stories to his great grand children. It's not that far from most of American history.

Please do something on Satank, a cousin of my grandmother was present when he was killed. He was a Kiowa leader who would sometimes masquerade as a Caddo chief named Slow Bear to find out what white men were up to.

Satank was with Satanta as they became the first Native Anericans tried for murder during a Massacre. It was on a transport to Jacksboro, Texas that Satank was killed. I'm still researching to find out who all I'm related to but Satanta was my 3rd Great Grandfather. I'm also related to other Kiowa War Chiefs. Many Kiowas are related due to marriages between different families.

The Warren Wagon Train fight or massacre took place near Graham Texas. Not too far from Fort Richardson near Jacksboro Texas northeast of Ft. Worth. There is an excellent book titled The Warren Wagon Train Massacre.

Sir please do a story on Tom Mcarty of western colo, eastern Utah. He was in fact the one who butch Cassidy learned much from inc the horse relay escape. His nephew and brother were killed at delta Co when Tom and them attempted the bank there. But he robbed many banks etc. And kept his identity fairly well concealed.

It is. It’s stories covering a range of Kiowa history from the 1700’s to the New Deal, having been gathered by Wilbur from the Kiowa and from the notes of captain Hugh l. Scott who was at fort sill in the 1890s

I just found out I'm related to Chief Huntinghorse twice due to marriages🤣 Chief TwoHatchet is my 2nd Great Grandfather and Chief Stumblingbear is my 3rd Great Uncle
