For his set in The Lab NYC, Satoshi will deliver a hybrid DJ set, utilizing a unique eurorack modular system which he’s been experimenting with at his studio in NYC. This will be one of the first performances from the producer with this gear setup and will introduce fans to the future of his output. Satoshi Tomiie has been a guiding force in the global house community for decades, linking with Frankie Knuckles to collaborate on the legendary track ‘Tears’ early in his career in 1989. The Japanese born, New York and Paris based DJ, producer, remixer and label boss has since had seminal releases on respected record labels like Strictly Rhythm and FFRR, and more recently has launched his Abstract Architecture that’s home to his own material. Fueled by elements of jazz and the piano, his work reflects a soulful motif paired with steady rhythms made to energize the dancefloor.

And this shall be the best response to "their" current experimentation. Any producers/DJs still on the roll from the 90-2k are experimenting with new waves, melodies, etc. I got it, the industry needs to evolve otherwise it will get forgotten. Where the hell is the energy? We fell too deep and yet cannot reconnect to our inner-primal instincts with these sounds. Thus we are still listening to Nu Breed sessions, InnerSanctuary, P&W, etc. Cause its the only tool ever since remaining for us..

I have to laugh because people always give djs a hard time, "All they do is play other people's songs, and now with computers, anyone can be a dj." And then when they get a legend using all mediums and playing a predominantly live, complicated performance, they give them a hard time or call it, " Bloody boring." Haters gonna hate!

The Maestro at Work :: Absolutely majestic housey, groovy, rhythmic technological masterpiece by the always innovative by definition Satoshi-sensei. He is an artist like no other. He cannot be praised enough. He's been at the top of the A legends league almost since the beginning . Here at at 25 kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2fPoYulpqhnfa8 . I once had a girlfriend who hated house music, hated sequencer music , hated the night club scene but was opened minded and came with me to a Satoshi Tomiie performance at Pacha Ibiza when he launched Undulation. She said that the professionalism of Satoshi-sensei had her mesmerised during the whole performance and thanked me for dragging her to Ibiza to experience the one of the TWO modern Mozarts of our time: Ryuichi Sakamoto & Satoshi Tomiie. We have Huge Respect for him.

satoshis early stuff around 2000 was fucking dark n moody man. I'm not really feeling his modern stuff. he really used to be one of my heros back then. his record label "Saw Recordings" wad badaas. i remember id wait for every release and buy themfrom the record shops. man there was some good classics on that label
@RockstahRolln7 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you! He's performing live together with mixing which is throwing the set off. When I saw his name I was SUPER excited because I was expecting his old classic sound but.... This certainly is not his best. However, I like how he's trying to infuse current dj performance technology with his mixing and.... that's about it.

Last Saturday and under PHAEX Music Festival in Corfu Island, Greece I had the privilege to listen to his set, gradually started from low minimal tech house and raised up to more techno house stuff. Unfortunately I had to leave but no worries until next time! Thank you PHAEX for hosting him!

EXACTLY what I was thinkin!! This is NOT Satoshi, I've heard terrific sets from him. Well... that intro shit happens to the best of us. I've been there several times and its so hard to gather yourself and decide where to go from there, because, it affects the crowd! So getting the energy back into and from the crowd is always hard after such a shock.

Like, seriously, I have multiple vinyl of Tomiie in my crates, and trust me, I doooo not play house music here in Tokyo!! I know there are many sub-genres, and sometimes I get confused, but House is a Major Chapter!! Just like Techno, just like Acid, just like Breaks, just like Drum and Bass, just like ETC. There is NO way you could confuse these chapters!!!
