SATSANGH: Why be good and appear good as well?

Isn't it enough if I am good? Is there a need to appear good as well? When we go deeper, more problems are unearthed.
Wisdom states that the dual world will always have equal amounts of good and bad; light and darkness. That's the nature of duality. Why then should one be good in the first place?
Bhagawan Sri SathyaSai Baba inspires a powerful answer and also adds that it isn't enough just being good - one has to appear good too!
This gets highlighted in a very personal incident that I am sharing simply because the message is very powerful. It was an experience that got me many tense moments, a few crying moments but ended on an enlightening note, as is the case always with the Master.
This is a talk delivered on the 17th of February, 2017 in the Satsangh Hall at Prasanthi Nilayam, Puttaparthi.

@@saistudent Arvind Bhaiyya. SAIRAM. I have been a Swami follower for decades - trying to be a full time devotee! Forgive me for sharing this but lot of questions arise in mind. Some of these I would like to share here: 1) All my life I was told that Perception is Reality and was subjected to unending misery thanks to others' misperceptions ..This practice has always made Indian social culture very narrow and regressive. For sure,, in Sai Organizations one needs to be very strict compared to our outside life. Yet, it is the intention that is important - isn't it? The perception factor can be taken advantage of by people who just want to push you around. 2) I have met and have had experiences with Sai Org. members/staff with bad intentions/actions (don't want to go into details, here), Centres have cliques, cronyism and some of them can be very mean. They APPEAR TO BE GOOD/very sweet words/fitting in well/ politically correct But not genuine at all. Their words and actions have no correlation. They try to control the rest. Yet, there are people who may not APPEAR to be good/follow the herd but who are Genuine .. this is the herd mentality that limits so many people. Not every one has that skill - even highly intelligent- to say the right things at the right place. That does not mean it is Foolishness -IMHO. Everyone's emotional quotient is different. Just like you don't put down a low IQ person, you cannot put down a low EQ person either. 3) Good is an umbrella word like 'Friend'. or Love. It is highly contextual. Perception is important but not to the extent of giving up confidence or buying into others' false ideas. IT is the same public opinion that made 'Sati' mandatory once and dowry is still a social menace. It is the public opinion that made young widows live with no support / forced to shave their heads. I Love our Tradition and the rituals too ! but I am not for dogmatic ones. Just wanted to share my views. Hope to get some answers.

Good subject to analyse ..100% good is not possible, lord Rama , ravanan, lord Krishna, Kamsa, kauravas etc .. equilibrium is law of nature, day ,night, good bad ,white black , etc ..om sai ram. Sai Ram and thanks dear Aravind for such a wonderful narration of your experience with Swami! Swami literally heard my prayers and answered them through this narration. This came as a savior and timely help. Just last week I had to face this tough question "Why did lord Rama send mother Sita to forest even after she went through 'agnipariksha'..." I did not have an immediate and apt answer to this question. I just said," Sorry, this is a very subtle concept , I cannot explain logically or intellectually. Please feel free to ask Swami directly (perhaps in meditation).I am sure He will answer your question." Same question used to come to my mind as a student. However, over a period of time I felt that it was a 'Divine drama'(As students , Swami always told us not to waste time in too much arguments and debates). Thanks to Swami and you for elucidating the concept of "social dharma"so beautifully through this incident - it is important to 'appear' good under many circumstances and be good as well.

Are you able to forgive yourself? If you are able to, know that God will also because in the final reality, all are divine. SAIRAM. Some of us don't know how to be bad as in hurt or harm others. How can one live in society and be in Sathsangh and not seek loving relationships? this is the crux of Family structure . We are social beings who want to share love and life. It is not always about Wealth or riches but having enough to have stability. There are many rich devotees who are happy as well. There are many poor devotees who are not very happy Or struggling.. It is the middle class (lower and mid) that suffers in dilemmas.

Om sri Sairam, the miracles done by satya sai baba are criticizing in some videos with so many proofs. Are they posting animated videos. Once upon on a time I am devotee of baba. Now I am not but a doubt arises in my mind why I am not able to be happy by avoiding baba even though there is proof. Give me reply that are they animated videos or not give elaborated reply. Think me as your brother who is handicapped in reaching god. Please give me straight and elaborate reply upon criticizing videos that are posted on KZbin.
