Yesterday, the Twins and I were supposed to dive the U90, 19 miles out from Lymington. Unfortunately, we were bailed at mid-day Friday, we swiftly organised a trip to Vobster, and scooters were mentioned. With the viz being a touch ropey for the last couple of weeks I wasn't sure if attaching the camera to the scooter would be worth it or not. Anyway I did, and yes, it was. We had a discussion about what if any skills we wanted to practice, my worry was about separation drills as there was a good chance of needing them, but some of the ideas mentioned, were, Out of gas, and sharing whilst on scooters!! positioning, one above the other, I said we're not the Red Arrows, going down the Tunnel, coming up the Tunnel, what routes to take, etc. So, Vobster Saturday, we dropped in and we collected our scooters and bail outs, bubble checked, with me at the back, RobF went left, RobS went right, I thought oh shit and followed RobF. We got to the platforms, had a conflab and went back to the Ramp and surfaced, RobS went to what he thought was the Jaquelin but was at the Wheelhouse and he too surfaced, we met somewhere in the middle and set off with RobF leading, yes we went down the tunnel, hung a left and frightened a few OC single cylinder divers as we went through the SeaKing, we turned right and hugged the wall before going to the Humber where "Rob the Banksy" showed off his graffiti talents. It was at this point that I realised, that possibly, I'm not the thickest in the group after all. The look on Rob's face when looking at his compass and wondering why it was spinning faster than Linda Blair's head while holding it above an electric motor was priceless and so funny, but there we go. I have to bow down to RobF on him locating the Truck through pea soup, I could never have done it, so credit to him. We decided to head round to the right and as we dropped down, I had my first High O2 warning, I added some Dil, and watched it come down, by now apparently we'd crossed over the Bang Hut, I hadn't seen it as I was closely monitoring my PPO2, we ascended and arrived at the Pevril Pride where I noticed my camera had overheated and shut down, I tried to restart it but it wasn't having it, we descended and I hadn't allowed for the depth change and received another High PPO2, all this all while trying to keep RobS's white fins in sight, so while I was sorting that I realised we were over an attraction, I wasn't really taking any interest in it but assumed it was the Rescue Boat, it was only when we crossed the Road Closed Sign I realised it had been the Caravan, oh how I chuckled.
We came passed the Jaquelin and up the slope where RobF's ToysRUs computer started singing, we waited, we waited some more and eventually surfaced. There were Blackberry and Apple Pies, Hobnobs and Orange Club Biscuits. Dive2, was a return to the Caravan and a hunt for the Rescue Boat, (the real one this time), well we left the Caravan and I'd assume we'd go at the same level, follow the edge of the pit until we came to it, but no, we started that way and then we started an ascent to about 14 metres, we went through the trees until we came to the pipes which lead to the APC, the camera had overheated again, we had a play then returned to the Jaquelin and out. For some reason, Rob thought the Rescue Boat was at 14 metres, I had thought it was a good idea, when I couldn't see the light which tells me when my camera has a seal, to keep pumping and thereby remove most of the air out of the housing and wondered why it kept overheating, Duh!!! So maybe I am the thickest after all :)
It wasn't the day we planned, but it really was a fun day playing on the scooters, it was a brilliant laugh, and the twins were great company, the weather was strange, no wind, some rain but mostly sunshine, here's a bit of video, there was only one soundtrack I could use:)
