Does anyone know what a call judge factor is?

Elizabeth Hirn they then break it down more to style and who they "call" rode the course better. They don't do those in the pony division though

i’m confused about the first jump. do they have the option to jump either of the verticals or the gate?

Since it’s a handy hunter course and not a normal one, I’m pretty sure they’re looking for horses that can make not “proper” things look easy, like slightly off striding, angles, sharp turns, sometimes not being on the correct lead, ‘galloping’ at fences instead of going super slow/calm, etc.
