I grew up in the 70's and early 80's. These all bring back good memories of getting up on Saturday morning, eating breakfast, and watching cartoons before getting on our bikes and heading off till dark. I'm blessed to have grown up in those time instead of today.

Getting up so early picking out your box of cereal that you were going to take in front of the TV and then you went there and you waited till TV came on because in those days TV was not on 24hr/day. Depending on how many siblings do you have you had to get up early in my house to get the exact cereal that you liked. (Or at least the one that all of the marshmallows or whatever the good part in them wasn't picked out) 😆

I was born in 1960. Waking up early on Saturday morning as a child was one of my favorite things to do. My parents would be sleeping in from whatever they did that was so tiring downtown on Friday night. I would quietly go to the kitchen and get my cereal and milk and turn on the tv quietly for a few hours of diversion from an otherwise unhappy childhood. My parents were at their best behavior when they were passed out... Cartoons (and 60's to early 70's sitcoms) helped keep me from turning into my parents. My kids and grandkids have a much better life than I did growing up... and they're all old school cartoon watchers, lol!

You just told my story as well. I am so happy that the deep dysfunction from my drunken parents with my childhood was spent being afraid of my father and being so ashamed because of my mother's behavior ended with me. Saturday for me was a reprieve with watching cartoons and then riding out with my bicycle including playing baseball or basketball up on the school grounds with some of the local kids. Saturday morning would kick off with The Adventures Of Superman at 6:30 am and Looney Tunes at 9:00 plus all tge others, Johnny Quest etc....

A lot of stuff in cartoons I really didn't get when I was little, it was a little more mature than I could really understand. But now as an adult, I get double my money; I get the jokes that I didn't get when I was little, plus the same fun and zaniness that I enjoyed while only a little guy.

Bullwinkle and Rocky had rotten animation but some of the jokes were hilarious. The writers poked fun at the CIA, the federal government, the military, Southerners (War between the States!), etc. They even poked fun at college football when Whatsamatta U fielded a team in one episode. The funny jokes continued in ‘George of the Jungle’ and ‘Dudley Do-Right’. Both heroes were incredibly dumb, especially George, who didn’t seem to know that his girlfriend, (Ursula?), was actually a woman. George’s monkey/gorilla seemed to have an Ivy League education and had to constantly remind George that the long-haired ‘fella’ was his mate.
